Chapter 12 What a Scheming “Nice Girl”
Mayra stood there, still trying to figure out the meaning behind his last words.
It seemed like he had something to say.
She had this strong feeling that, before her memory loss, she had probably avoided seeing Colten at all costs.
And after hearing about her past foolish behavior, she likely mocked him a lot.
She rubbed her temples and sighed.
In the middle of the night, she was woken by the sound of a drunken man banging on the door. She wasn’t sure if it was her door he was attacking.
She got up to listen carefully, but the noise faded away.
The next morning, Mayra prepared all the materials for her job interview, wrote her resume, and sent it to the Morton Group.
About half an hour later, she got a rejection text. There was no interview. Just straight–up denial.
But Mayra didn’t give up. She applied to other departments.
But one by one, every application was rejected.
Her credentials were solid. There was no way her resume should be getting turned down.
Around noon, Gracie transferred her 25 thousand dollars. It was her

commission from last night.
Mayra’s eyes lit up, and she quickly dialed Jared’s number.
If she was right, the person who helped her on the street yesterday was
Colten.
And Jared was probably Colten’s assistant.
She was too scared to call Colten directly.
Jared picked up quickly, sounding annoyed as she said, “Ms. Mayra.”
Mayra kept her tone as polite as possible.
“Jared, hi. What’s your card number? I’ll transfer the money to you.”
Jared’s voice held a hint of mockery. She had said she couldn’t gather money yesterday, and now here she was, playing the game.
He gave her a string of numbers and then she asked, “By the way, is Mr. Colten available these days? I’d like to invite him for dinner.”
Maybe Mayra would also ask him why he didn’t let her into the Morton Group
“Ms. Mayra, I see your game now. Did Ronan say something, and now you’re trying to win Mr. Colten’s favor by making a fool of him?”
Mayra felt helpless. No one believed she had amnesia.
“If you won’t help, I’ll just ask Mr. Colten myself,” she said.
After all, she had his number.
Jared’s throat tightened. “He’s not free. For the next month, he’ll only be doing rehab and working. He won’t be going anywhere.”

“Where does he live?”
Before she could get an answer, Jared hung up.
Colten’s residence wasn’t hard to find. It was in Palm Heights.
That evening, Mayra went out to grab a taxi, but on the street, she saw
Viviana.
Viviana slammed her expensive sports car to a stop right in front of her.
If it had been any closer, it would’ve hit her.
Mayra’s eyes flashed coldly as she watched Viviana step out.
Viviana had dressed up today. Her makeup was perfect, and she was carrying a limited–edition handbag. She looked like a princess.
The Oliver family wasn’t big in the capital’s elite circles, but Mayra had grown up with Ronan mainly because her mother, Elyse, and Ronan’s mother were best friends.
Viviana flicked her hair and gave Mayra a sweet smile. “Mayra, I didn’t expect to run into you here. Are you waiting for Ronan at the Morton Group?”
Just seeing that fake smile made Mayra feel uncomfortable.
Today, Mayra wasn’t wearing makeup and was dressed simply in jeans. and a white top. But somehow, her plain appearance looked refined, like she didn’t need to try hard to be elegant.
Viviana’s eyes were filled with jealousy as she smirked. “I’m having dinner with Ronan tonight. Want to join? Oh, and after you left home, my mom got me a new car to make up for the embarrassment I suffered on my birthday. The car stopped too suddenly. I hope it didn’t scare you.”
In the past, Mayra would’ve been shaken, caught in a spiral of self–doubt. and anxiety, maybe even acting out.
But now, she just glanced at the car and smirked. “It suits you.”
Viviana felt a punch to the gut, frustration bubbling inside her. “If you
want to see Ronan tonight, I can give you the address where we’re having dinner.”
Mayra raised an eyebrow: So all those times she’d barged in on Ronan and Viviana’s dates, it was because Viviana had told her the address in
advance?
Viviana must have been waiting for her to lose it, so Ronan would hate Mayra more.
Then Viviana could act all wronged, and Ronan would comfort her.
Two birds with one stone.
