Chapter 7 Stay Away From This Walking Disaster
Mayra’s chest tightened with frustration as she scrambled to gather her things, but froze when she opened the last drawer.
Inside was a stack of certificates, including her highly coveted CPA and CFA.
Several of these were her ticket into the fiercely competitive Broye Avenue financial world, yet they were tucked away in the least obvious.
corner.
Wasn’t she just a useless woman who only knew how to chase men?
She glanced at the papers quickly, unwilling to stay in the room any longer. Grabbing a few clothes, she started to leave.
Just then, Shaun walked in. “Mayra, are you really leaving again? Don’t cause a scene. I’m starving.”
He quickly moved toward her, yanked the suitcase from her hand, and continued.
“If you don’t apologize to Mom, Dad, and Viviana, they won’t have anything to do with you anymore. You’ve been acting like this again. trying to run away? Wasn’t it just yesterday that you were throwing a tantrum and came crawling back in the morning? This is so embarrassing. You’ve turned this family into a mess.”
As he spoke, he tossed the suitcase aside.
The clothes she’d so carefully packed spilled out onto the floor.
“You know why everyone loves Viviana? She’s gentle, well–educated, and

amazing at her job. Honestly, she’s left you in the dust. That’s why Mom and Dad haven’t given you any shares yet. When are you going to wake up?”
Mayra looked at the clothes on the floor, her patience finally running out. She raised her hand and slapped him across the face.
“Smack!”
Shaun clutched his cheek, the imprint of her hand quickly swelling up. He stared at her in disbelief. “You hit me?”
Mayra had always been the quiet, indulgent one. She had never done this before.
Shaun stood there, feeling hurt for a few seconds before his anger flared up again.
“You hit me? Seriously?! Mayra, I’m done talking to you! Unless you cook for me for a year, I won’t even speak to you again. Go ahead and leave! You’ll be back in a few days, begging for our help, just like always!”
With that, he stormed out.
As Mayra grabbed her suitcase and headed downstairs, Elyse’s shrill voice. echoed from the living room.
“Damn it, Mayra! You really hit your brother? You’re beyond saving! You better kneel outside until we’re satisfied, or this house won’t have a place. for you anymore!”
Mayra glanced toward the sofa, where Viviana was gently pressing an egg to Shaun’s swollen cheek, her eyes filled with concern.
Shaun looked at Mayra, his face full of fake gratitude, and let out a dismissive huff.
Mayra felt a sharp ache in her chest, but she was done with the past. She wouldn’t beg for their love anymore.
She calmly walked toward the door.
“I’m fine with not staying here. If I don’t belong, then so be it. You four can live happily ever after. I won’t be a bother. Goodbye!”
Elyse couldn’t believe her ears. She trembled in anger, “You… you… I don’t even know how I gave birth to a monster like you! You’ve never worked a day in your life since graduation. Let’s see how long you last outside. You’ll be begging us for help sooner or later!”
The sound of the door slamming shut was Mayra’s only response.
Elyse collapsed on the couch, her hands shaking as she tried to drink some water. “I should’ve never had her.”
Viviana’s eyes twinkled with amusement, though her voice was filled with concern. “Mom, don’t worry, she always says things like that. The more she acts cold and distant, the sooner she’ll come back.”
Shaun quickly added, “Yeah, she slapped me this time, and I’m never forgiving her. Not this time.”

Mayra reached the front door; her only possession was the 2 thousand dollars Gracie had transferred to her. First thing’s first, she needed a place to stay.
Though Gracie had offered her a place, Mayra didn’t want to keep imposing on her friend.
She searched online for nearby rentals, hoping to find something close to the Morton Group.

But the Morton Group’s office was smack in the middle of the most expensive area in town. The cheapest apartment she found was nearly 3 thousand a month, way beyond what she could afford.
If she rented somewhere farther out, the daily taxi fare would eat up her budget too.
After thinking it over, she spotted a nearby free ebike.
In the end, she settled on a place in an old neighborhood, about twenty minutes away from the Morton Group by bike.
Unlocking the electric bike outside the complex, she decided to try it out on the main road.
She had no memory of how to ride a bike, but watching others made it look easy enough.
The electric scooter jerked and crawled along the road, moving at a snail’s pace. Nearly everyone who passed by honked at her.
Sweat beaded on Mayra’s forehead as she tried her best to stay near the edge of the road, hoping to avoid any accidents.
A luxurious dar stopped at a red light not far away.
Colten glanced at the papers in his lap, then turned his head, just in time to spot Mayra swerving on the bike.
She had tied her hair in a ponytail today, and the sunlight made her skin. look almost translucent, radiating a youthful energy.
But she was riding so badly that she almost collided with a turning car.
Colten froze, his fingers twitching slightly as he heard his assistant, Jared, speak up.

“Isn’t that Ms. Mayra? What’s she up to this time? I thought she’d never ride anything less than a 500–thousand–dollar car.”
Jared, Colten’s assistant, had just returned to the country.
He glanced up, meeting Colten’s eyes in the rearview mirror.
“Boss, let’s just keep our distance from this walking disaster. We don’t need to get caught up in whatever mess she’s in.”
