Chapter 3 Humiliation
Mayra didn’t know who to ask for 3 thousand dollars. In the end, at nine o’clock in the evening, she called Colten again.
A deep, cold, and rough voice answered, like snowflakes in winter.
“Mayra?”
Mayra felt like someone had grabbed her throat, and her heart was drowning in hurt.
“Hello, Colten. Can you lend me 3 thousand dollars? I’m in the hospital and can’t pay the bill.”
Over the phone, she could hear soft breathing and the tiny sound of clothes rubbing together.
Just as Mayra thought Colten was going to say no, he asked, “What’s your
card number?”
“I… Let me look for it.” she stammered.
She quickly grabbed the bag next to her and started searching around, scared that Colten would hang up.
The nurse said it was her bag, but all it had inside was makeup for touch-
ups.
Mayra finally found a bank card in the innermost pocket and read out the card number.
In less than a minute, she heard the sound of money coming into her
account.
Chapter lon
Mayra didn’t want to hang up. Colten was the only person who had talked to her since she lost her memory.
But after hesitating for three minutes, she didn’t know what to say.
Strangely, Colten didn’t hang up either.
In the quiet phone, they could hear each other breathing.
“Colten, I…”
“Are you badly hurt?”
Colten’s voice wasn’t soft. It was kind of cold, like the evening breeze.
But Mayra could hear the care she had been longing for since she woke
- up.
She felt a bit touched, but she wasn’t good at talking, so all she could say was, “I’m okay now. Thanks. I’ll pay you back later.”
“Maya, how long do you plan to keep fooling me this time?”
Mayra’s heart skipped a beat, and she quickly hung up the phone, feeling confused.
What did Colten mean? Had she been lying to him before?
The more she thought about it, the more puzzled she got.
She had no choice but to pay the bill and go through the discharge procedures.
But when Mayra stood at the entrance of the hospital, she felt lost, not knowing where to go.
She didn’t have any money on her and wasn’t sure where she lived.
Chapter 1 Hamliation
In the end, she managed to find the direction of her home through WhatsApp records and took a taxi there.
It was a beautiful villa with a very nice garden.
The taxi driver tapped the steering wheel and said, “16 dollars. Cash or charge?”
As Mayra got out of the taxi awkwardly, a fancy car pulled up.
The window rolled down, and Ronan’s face appeared. In the passenger seat was Viviana, who looked innocent with her makeup on.
Viviana stepped out and asked with concern, “Mayra, why did you leave the hospital?”
She looked beautiful today. Her dress had circles of little diamonds on it, and the bag she was carrying was a special edition, worth at least 500 thousand dollars.
“Didn’t Ronan tell you that your boyfriend is Colten?”
Viviana’s eyes got red. “Are you going to mess with me again?”
Before Mayra could say anything, Ronan got out of the driver’s seat, his face dripping with sarcasm.
“I thought you could last a bit longer, but you couldn’t even make it six hours. Mayra, you’re really shameless. Do you need me to keep telling you that I like Vivi? Don’t you have any pride? Do you feel bad if you’re not put down every day?! Why do you always have to pick on Vivi?”
Viviana leaned into his arms and shook her head gently. “Forget it, Ronan. I’m used to it.”
Mayra’s face turned completely pale. She was still wearing the loose. hospital gown, and her thick eyelashes kept trembling, like something
delicate that could break just by touching it..
She forced herself not to look at them and said in a hoarse voice, “Do you have 16 dollars? Could you lend it to me?”
Ronan sneered, and he didn’t even try to hide how much he disliked. Mayra. “Don’t even think about it!”
He looked down at Viviana in his arms and said softly, “Let’s go inside. Just ignore her.”
Viviana wiped her eyes and smiled a little. “Mayra, here’s my card. You
can use it.”
Mayra kept her eyes down. She was trying hard to hold back the hurt in her heart and swallow her pride to take the card because she really needed the money right now.
She had to give in to reality.
But before she could touch the card, another fancy car pulled up next to her.
Her mom, Elyse Patton, got out of the car angrily. Seeing what was happening, she strode over and slapped Mayra right across the face!
“Are you bullying Vivi again? Haven’t you taken enough money from her? Mayra, what more do you want from us? Are you trying to make everyone miserable? Ever since Vivi was brought back, you’ve been messing with her. You should have been the one who got taken away! Vivi has been through a lot, and you’re being so selfish!”
