Chapter 2 Mom’s Blame
With that, Ronan wrapped his arm around Viviana’s waist and left without looking back.
Mayra looked at the phone number on her screen. The guy who just left said he was her fiance, but he didn’t care about her at all. Instead, he had been defending Viviana the whole time.
Mayra’s heart felt like it was being tightly clamped, and her face turned a bit pale. The pain hit her before she even realized it.
Viviana looked like she had fully recovered, while Mayra felt like she had been through hell.
How could a man like that be her fiance?
This book had been added on your bookshelf.
Mayra had been missing for three days, and not a single family member had tried to contact her. The only thing she could barely recall was the shadowy figure of her boyfriend.
Without thinking twice, she called the number. On the other end, a polite voice answered, like someone’s assistant.
“Ms. Oliver?”
“Hello, is this Colten? I seem to have lost my memory because of a car accident. I…”
“Mr. Morton just got back to Moonfell and is still in rehab. Last time, you also called him with the same excuse about a car accident and asked him to come and pick you up. Even the reason for the accident was exactly the same. Then he really had a car accident with you. Ms. Oliver, if you have any conscience, please stop contacting him.”

“But I…”
Beep…
The call was cut off on the other end.
Mayra sighed and leaned back. Her head was pounding, and she felt confused and scared about what the future held.
She looked down at the unlocked phone. Luckily, the payment function still worked.
Handing the phone to the nurse who had just walked in, she said, “Can you check if there’s enough money on this card to pay the bill?”
Mayra glanced at her payment records and saw that she had spent 30 thousand dollars a week ago–seemed like it was for a pair of men’s cufflinks. So, she probably wasn’t short of money.
The nurse said, “Your balance is too low. The total cost for your emergency treatment and hospital stay is 3 thousand dollars.”
Mayra looked down, her pretty face full of confusion. She had spent 30 thousand dollars last week. How could she not have even 3 thousand
dollars in her bank account now?
She found a phone number with “Mom” written next to it and took a deep breath before making the call.
As soon as it connected, her mom’s voice came through, scolding her, “You still remember to call me? You’re not a kid anymore, yet you’re playing these tricks again! Ronan and Vivi have been dating behind your back for a while now. Vivi didn’t want to hurt your feelings, so she never told you. And here you are, seeing them kiss, you dragged Vivi out and got into a car accident. You’re so inconsiderate. I wish you would just stay dead out there! Vivi always thinks about you, but all you do is resort

to these despicable tricks. How could I have a daughter as malicious as you?”
Mayra was about to ask something when Viviana’s voice came through on the other end.
“Mom, it seems like Mayra has lost her memory this time and ended up in the hospital. You should hold back a bit.”
“Lost her memory? How many times has she lost her memory in a year? What a fool! She always plays this trick. If she had any real guts, she should stay away for good and stop trying to drive me crazy. Vivi, don’t try to talk me out of it. Haven’t you had enough these past few years? Ronan confessed to you first. Mayra was too chicken to stand up to Ronan, so she always picked on you. You’re being too kind–hearted.”
Mayra felt her heart ache terribly as she listened. Was this woman on the phone really her mom?
Why, like Ronan, did she never ask about her injuries?
Mayra parted her lips and gave a bitter smile. “Are you really my mom?”
How could a mother treat her daughter like this?
“What do you mean? Are you trying to drive me to my death? If you don’t want me as your mom, I sure don’t want a daughter who brings so much shame! Just look at all the scandals you’ve caused trying to win Ronan’s heart. Can’t you just leave things alone? Why do you always have to compete with Vivi for everything? Even when I bought an extra car for her, you got upset. Do you really see her as your sister? I don’t want to see you these days. Since you’ve lost your memory, just stay away! Our family will be much more peaceful without you. You’re such a jinx!”
Mayra looked at the phone that had been hung up on her. The heavy pain in her chest wouldn’t go away. She felt something wet on her face and

reached up to touch it–it was tears.

She pulled out her phone and started scrolling through her Instagram feed. Then, she saw a post from Viviana.
It was a picture with a huge floor–to–ceiling window, showing the fireworks over the river in Moonfell. The caption said: “With my lover and family by my side.”
In the mirror’s reflection in the picture, there was Ronan and two blurry figures of middle–aged people.
Mayra’s heart felt a sharp pain, and she almost doubled over from the hurt.
