A crisp, confident voice sliced through the air.
The crowd instinctively parted as Alec strode in, tall and imposing.§
Today, he wore a well–tailored black suit for the first time. It accentuated his broad shoulders and narrow waist, every move exuding power and poise, making him look like a model who had just stepped off the runway.
Under the stunned gazes of everyone present, he walked right up to me, scooped me into his arms, and looked at Jaxxon with a calm, mocking smile.
“I want to marry her. Got a problem with that?”
With a loud thud, Jaxxon dropped the divorce certificate in his hand.
His eyes burned with fury as he stared at Alec’s arms wrapped around me.
His voice darkened, low and seething. “Megan, are you playing me?”
I couldn’t help but laugh. “Jaxxon, who’s playing who?”
“Three years ago, you claimed you were forced into an arranged marriage, and that’s why we broke up. But after Rhea died, you were so grief–stricken, anyone could see how much she meant to you. Did that really look like someone being forced?“}
“You swore the child was from IVF. But it turns out it’s the product of six months of you and Bethany trying to conceive!“}
I took a deep breath and pointed at Bethany’s stomach. “You were entangled with her, sleeping with her, while sweet–talking me into marrying you. Barely a month into our marriage, you demanded a divorce–only to tell me we’d remarry a year later!“}
“Jaxxon, tell me who’s been playing who? Was it still not enough for you, that now you have to publicly humiliate me in front of all these people?”
My voice trembled at the end, and I hated that.
Hated that even now, I was still this
Sulnerable, still this small in front of him.
But finally, after getting all of it off my chest–the years of pain, lies, betrayal–I felt free, and lighter.}
I tugged at Alec’s sleeve. “Let’s go. It
time to get our license.”
But Alec didn’t move. Instead, he gently set me down, his jaw was clenched, eyes cold enough to freeze the sun.
Jaxxon rubbed his temples like I was givin
him a headache, then stepped forward with a scowl.
“Megan, I’ll say it one last time about the child.“}
“This baby is the heir to both the Hamilton and Graham families. Even though Rhea is gone, the alliance between our families can’t fall apart. I had to do this.”
His gaze sharpened like a knife as he continued, “And don’t change the subject. You agreed to remarry after the divorce. It was written in the agreement. So what’s with the sudden flash marriage to some random guy? What the hell are you trying to prove?”
I almost laughed at how ridiculous he could be.
That day, I clearly rejected the fake divorce on the spot. But Jaxxon still convinced himself I couldn’t live without him–that I’d obediently wait for him to come back.
“I never agreed to-”
Before I could finish, Alec suddenly unfastened his suit button and stepped forward in long strides.
“Megan, step back.”
I wisely took a few steps back, quietly breaking into a cold sweat for Jaxxon.
After all, Alec was famously gifted in sports.
Fencing, Taekwondo, Muay Thai, swimming–he was a master of all. Back in school, he had cleaned the clocks of more than a few bullies.
With a dull thud, his fist landed squarely on Jaxxon’s face.”
