“Harper, what are you doing!”
“Harper! Don’t do anything stupid!”
Blake and Sawyer exclaimed at the same time, both anxiously raising their hands, trying to calm me down.
Self–destructive thoughts flooded my mind. I gripped the knife handle tightly, looking at Blake with numb eyes:
“Why?”
“Why would you do this to me?”
Blake looked at my bloodless face, a few drops of cold sweat beading on his forehead. His voice was taut, completely lacking confidence. “I just wanted to get revenge for Scarlett.”
He slowly began to tell his story.
The Blake family was incredibly wealthy. From a young age, he despised people who approached him because of his family background, so he pretended to be from a poor family starting in high school.
He had thought I genuinely loved him, but one day he overheard my conversation with other students. It turned out I already knew he was the Blake family heir and had deliberately approached him just to climb the social ladder and become the Blake family’s young mistress.
I had even gone so far as to hire a bunch of thugs from outside school to teach him a lesson,” wanting to stage a “Cinderella saves the Prince‘
acenario.

He never expected things to get out of control. Scarlett Zhao, who had always secretly loved him, stepped in to save him and willingly went into the woods with those thugs…
I found the whole thing so absurd it was laughable. I couldn’t stop myself from clutching my stomach and bursting into laughter.

It wasn’t until tears streamed down my face from laughing that I stood up. I glared at him with resentment, trembling as I roared, “Why did you put those videos online?! Why did you let people dox me and find my old home?! My grandma is the only family I have left!”
My words seemed to sting Sawyer. He moved his lips but didn’t say a word.
The color instantly drained from Blake’s face, and he waved his hands helplessly. “I, I didn’t put it online! I just… I just sent it to the group chat… It was all my brothers…!”
He grew more and more guilt–ridden as he spoke. “Those people on the highway weren’t strangers either, they were all my friends…”
My finger trembled as I pointed at Sawyer. “You too, right?”
Blake only then realized something was off. “You two know each other?”
Sawyer averted his gaze, his lips white from biting them. “Harper, let’s just go home, okay? We can talk about it there…”
I screamed, utterly distraught, wildly brandishing the fruit knife. “Home? What home?! Sawyer, tell me, where is my home?!”
I had always thought Sawyer was my most trusted family, my most reliable brother, my kindest father.
But he had known Blake’s identity all along, and he had become one of Blake’s “brothers” in the group chat, eagerly waiting his turn to get on
that “bus.”
“Harper, I’m sorry…” He lowered his head, slowly knelt, and slapped himself again and again. “I’m sorry, I’m so sorry…”
Scarlett Zhao didn’t dare meet my eyes, clinging tightly to Blake’s arm. “Blake, I’m so scared. What if Harper goes crazy and hurts us?”
Blake’s face was utterly grim, his voice even carrying a hint of impatience and sarcasm that he himself didn’t notice. “She doesn’t have the knife to your neck. What are you scared of?”
My depressive emotions suddenly vanished, and my illness abruptly entered a manic phase.
An unusual surge of rage and bloodlust welled up within me.
My eyes gleamed with almost insane excitement. I couldn’t help but lick my lips, pointing the knife at Scarlett Zhao:
“Claiming my credit for all these years, you owe me a huge favor.”
I broke into a wide smile, but it sent shivers down their spines:
“How about you pay with your life?”
