Chapter 5
“Watch your tone.” The smile vanished from Scott’s face.
“I can spend my money on whoever I want, and besides…”

I tugged at his sleeve. Scott glanced at me helplessly and didn’t
continue.
Just that was enough to make Madison furious.
She had originally wanted to humiliate me in front of everyone, though I wasn’t sure why.
I couldn’t understand why someone like her—a stunning beauty who commanded everyone’s attention—would always give me such a hard time when I was just an ordinary person.
I wondered: “Is she doing this because of Christopher? That doesn’t make sense either. Sure, Christopher and I dated in high school, but that’s ancient history.”
“This is the bank account, right? The money’s already been
transferred.”
Scott moved quickly, holding up his phone to show Christopher the transfer notification. Christopher’s expression darkened, and he
remained silent.
It wasn’t until his phone buzzed with the deposit notification

that Christopher said in disbelief, “Scott, you actually did this for this
woman…”
“What else?” Scott was losing patience, shooting him a cold glare.
He continued, “I’ve already given you the money. If you keep harassing Olivia, don’t blame me for not being nice about it!”
Christopher said nothing and returned to his seat, clearly displeased.
Madison hurried after him.
After all that drama, they finally stopped bothering me.
The other classmates glanced at them with looks that no longer held the previous admiration, but rather carried mockery, especially toward Madison.
After all, her behavior had just exposed her as nothing but a gold digger.
Honestly, I hadn’t intended to show off my relationship with Scott from the start.
I wasn’t with him because of his money or status, but because we shared the same values and goals.
Having lived through my previous life, I knew deeply that for

couples to last, compatibility in values was most important.

Otherwise, even the most beautiful love would eventually be buried in the graveyard of marriage.
After Scott publicly announced our relationship, classmates began gravitating toward us.
Scott wasn’t arrogant at all—he chatted easily with everyone, only intervening when someone tried to offer me alcohol.
“Sorry, Olivia’s pregnant and can’t drink.”
“Don’t worry about it. Olivia can just have water–we’re not the type to make things difficult for people just because we’ve made some money!” said a female classmate who was close to me, shooting a pointed look at Madison.
Madison’s face darkened, and she tugged at Christopher’s arm pitifully, probably hoping he’d help her out of this awkward
situation.
But Christopher completely ignored her, instead staring intently at me with a complex expression.
I noticed his gaze, of course. I initially tried to ignore it, but he showed no signs of looking away.
Feeling uncomfortable, I turned to meet his eyes directly.

Christopher’s eyes were somewhat red, and he was gritting his teeth, seemingly very angry.
This puzzled me even more.
I thought: “What’s he so angry about? Even if we had a conflict earlier, didn’t we resolve it peacefully? He’s achieved the life he wanted, so what’s there to be dissatisfied about?”
Soon, Scott noticed the tension too. Seeing Christopher’s displeased stare, he chuckled softly and pulled me into his arms.
“Christopher, why do you keep staring at Olivia? Are you unhappy about what happened earlier? If you’re not satisfied, I can compensate you with a little extra for emotional distress.”
Christopher snorted coldly, looked away, and continued drinking by himself.
Scott didn’t waste any more time on him and led me over to some familiar classmates.
Everyone congratulated us, saying Scott and I made a perfect match.
The party atmosphere remained lively, unaffected by the earlier unpleasant incident.
The only difference was that Christopher and Madison, who had been the center of attention, were now being ignored.

Surprisingly, they didn’t cause any more scenes and even left one after another before the party ended.
“Is Christopher upset?” one classmate wondered, watching them leave.
Kevin snorted: “They think living in the big city for a few years makes them successful. We were being polite when we complimented them, and they actually got cocky!”
“Exactly. We’re all classmates here–nobody’s better than anyone else.” Scott smiled as he chimed in.
Everyone seemed somewhat dissatisfied with Christopher’s attitude, but I wasn’t surprised at all.
Christopher had always looked down on people living in small
cities.
He’d always felt that small–town people were unsophisticated and not in his league.
After the party ended, sitting in the car with Scott, he asked me somewhat puzzled: “Why didn’t you let me finish what I was saying earlier? You’re the CEO of a major company–how could you let those two nobodies bully you?”
“I just didn’t think it was necessary.” I shook my head.

I hadn’t been content to just be a housewife. In fact, when we separated five years ago, I had used my previous life’s experience to start a project in this state, which received strong
support.
My career had developed well over these years, but I rarely appeared in public. After getting together with Scott, everyone naturally overlooked me in his shadow.
This was actually good for me—I could focus on doing what I loved.
“Christopher doesn’t still have feelings for you, does he?” Scoll suddenly asked jealously.
“No, he doesn’t.” I shook my head with certainly.
Christopher just couldn’t stand seeing me doing better than him.
Perhaps in his mind, since I had refused to leave with him in my previous life, I should have ended up wasting my life and regretting it forever–and this life should be no different.
But he hadn’t expected that not only had I not fallen into ruin, I had actually gotten married to Scott, whose resources far exceeded his own.
Christopher couldn’t accept it.
Scott didn’t press further, just held me tightly in his arms and

said softly: “I should thank him. If he hadn’t abandoned you, I probably never would have had the chance to be with you in this lifetime.”
I didn’t think Christopher had abandoned me—we had simply made different choices.
Because of that, I actually didn’t hate Christopher at all and saw no
reason to.
In fact, if he hadn’t suddenly appeared today, I would have almost forgotten about him entirely.
