Chapter 8
“Giselle, I’ve cleared up all those false stories and explained everything. Now, no one dares speak badly of you. You’re completely innocent. We can start fresh–please, give me another chance, okay?”
I couldn’t stop myself from laughing loudly when I heard what he said.
Cleared up? Was I supposed to thank him for that?
The image people had of me was stuck deep in their minds, and no matter what, it could never be washed away.
Besides, my photos and the sudden slip of my skirt had left me exposed to
everyone.
Just thinking about it made me feel breathless like I was suffocating.
Still, I pushed myself to get through it. After facing life and death, I realized some things just weren’t that important.
Since I’m still alive, I have a long way to go, and I must keep facing it.
I loosened my tightly closed hands.
“It’s impossible for us to be together. I’ve lost all hope for you. There’s no love left, only hate!
“Jackson, I don’t want anything to do with you ever again.”
Jackson collapsed, covered his face with his hands, and started crying.
When he finally left, he didn’t say a single word.
In the months that followed, Jackson found the top psychologist in the

country to help me.
I knew this problem would be a wound that never truly healed, a knot in my heart I’d never want to untic. But a little guidance couldn’t hurt. I didn’t have to be so tough on myself.
Since I didn’t want to return to that old house, Jackson took me to a beachfront villa.
He came over every single day and bought me countless expensive gifts, trying to make me happy.
But I didn’t feel happy at all. I didn’t say a single word to him the whole day.
That day, not long after he arrived, Rosalie actually barged into the villa.
She was holding a one–year–old baby in her arms.
She looked just like before, so pitiful that anyone would feel sorry for her
But this time, what surprised me was that Jackson didn’t feel sorry for her
at all.
Instead, he seemed really annoyed.
The moment Rosalie grabbed his sleeve, Jackson pushed her away.
Tears immediately streamed down Rosalie’s face.
“Jackson, you promised to take care of me and the baby forever. Please don’t ignore us, okay? Over the past year, all you’ve done is send money, you haven’t even visited us once. Is that how you take care of us?”
Her voice grew louder and more desperate as she spoke, finally rising to a shout.

But Jackson didn’t show any sympathy this time. He just stared at her coldly.

“As the wife of my best friend, I’m generous enough to give you money every month!
“If you hadn’t tempted me, how could I have started such a nasty rumor? It’s all your fault!
“If you try to bother me again, I won’t give you a single cent.”
Rosalie’s expression turned fierce. She stopped pretending to be sweet and shouted loudly, “Am I just your best friend’s wife? Jackson, do you really think it’s not because you still love me? Otherwise, why would you listen to me and spread bad rumors about Giselle?
Jackson clenched his jaw and smashed the cup he was holding.
“Enough! The one I love is Giselle! Back then, I was blinded by you. Rosalie, don’t be so ungrateful!”
The little one in Rosalie’s arms got scared and began to cry. She gently rocked the child to comfort him.
“Jackson, I’m begging you, please come back home with me. Giselle has such a bad reputation that everyone hates her! She doesn’t deserve you, only I do! Only I can…”
