Chapter 22
At 3 o’clock in the morning, Hunter was woken up by the ringing of his phone.
He furrowed his brow, getting angry at who was disturbing his sleep, only to find more than twenty missed calls.
Outside the house, lightning flashed, and thunder roared, with torrential rain pouring down as if it was destined to be an extraordinary night.
At that moment, the assistant’s phone rang again, and Hunter answered, only to hear the frantic voice on the other end.
“Bad news, Mr. Langdon! Eleanor’s body has been found in a remote fishing village, and the news has already broken!”
His voice was almost shouted out, with a noticeable tremble. Hunter was startled and quickly turned on the TV to the news channel.
Sure enough, on the television, the anchor solemnly reported the news of Eleanor’s murder.
“Mr. Langdon, someone in the village saw you coming and going with Eleanor, and now they are starting to suspect you.”
In the video footage, his suitcase was salvaged, and Eleanor was curled up inside, completely disfigured by the lake water, with wide eyes staring as if filled with despair and resentment.
Hunter’s breath caught, his fingers tightening involuntarily.
Next, the reporter interviewed the fishermen in the fishing village. Eleanor had lost her parents at a young age, so she naturally had no one to live with.

However, unexpectedly, on the night he left the suitcase behind, there were actually eyewitnesses in the village.
“When I got up to use the bathroom that night, I saw a tall man dragging a box towards the lake.”
A big man in a vest said so. When the journalist saw it, he excitedly picked out a few photos and asked
if anyone in them matched.
“Hey! This person looks familiar, I think Eleanor was with him back then.”
Several villagers gathered around, all agreeing. That evening, the car arrived in the village and Eleanor went home together.
The television screen zoomed in on the enlarged photo, revealing that it was actually Hunter captured by the surveillance camera.
Lightning tore through the night sky, illuminating the bedroom in an
instant.
Hunter’s temples throbbed, a chill running up his spine.
And at that moment, the doorbell suddenly rang, Hunter turned off the lights, trying to create the illusion that he was not at home.
It seemed that the person outside the door had planned it in advance, and then came a rapid knocking on the door, with such force that it seemed like they were trying to break it down.
“We are the police! Hunter, you are suspected of committing a crime, please open the door immediately!”
Hunter broke out in a cold sweat and quickly flipped off the bed. Through the peephole, he saw a group of police officers in uniform standing outside the door.
The sound of thunder outdoors.

Chapter 22
This scene made him feel as if all the blood in his body was starting to flow backwards, and he knew he couldn’t escape.
It’s impossible. I did everything perfectly. How could I have been caught?!
Hunter was unwilling, unwilling to be caught despite his wealth and power, unwilling to not spend the rest of his life with the woman he loved the most.
His brain was working rapidly, the thunder exploded in his ears, he looked at the torrential rain outside, opened the curtains, and saw the empty police car downstairs.
He hesitated for almost no time at all, then leaped from the villa and landed heavily on the car, the sound of his body hitting drowned out by the thunder.
Seeing that no one noticed him, he quickly dragged his limping body away. However, due to the intense impact, he seemed to have aggravated an old injury, and the leg that had been broken before was now throbbing with pain.
Hunter didn’t care about anything else and hurriedly walked away into the distance.
Just then, a beam of headlights shone on his face, causing him to squint in irritation.
“Hunter! You were surrounded.”
When he opened his eyes again, he found himself surrounded by a group of police officers, with a police car parked in front of him.
He was powerless to argue anymore and was handcuffed by a group of police officers.
“Come with us for a trip!”

The police car whizzed past with sirens blaring, while the torrential rain continued to pour down. Hunter was tied up inside the car, his eyes numb.
In the car, silence filled the air, occasionally interrupted by the sound of thunder. Suddenly, Hunter burst into a fit of laughter, as he took out the torn magazine cover from his pocket and stared at it quietly.
He caressed the beautiful face, stared for a few seconds, and suddenly burst into tears.
The police officers watched him cry, but eventually they didn’t bother anymore.
Perhaps he regretted everything he had done, but it was already too late, and everything could not be changed.
Lena’s smiling face beamed in the back seat of the police car, as if it was the final redemption in his life.
