Yann arrived at Royal House before dinner. Amelia had arrived half an hour early and was now carefully guiding Audrey by the hand from the sofa to the dining table. “Take it slow. There’s no rush. Just walk slowly.”
“I’m really fine. I don’t feel anything at all,” Audrey said, shooting Lena an annoyed look. Because of her, she’d become the subject of intense protection ‘This is way too much. They’re treating me like I’m made of glass,‘ she thought.
Lena didn’t dare meet her eyes and took a bite of her apple, pointing toward the door. “Yann’s here!” She ran over to him happily with her pair outstretched, expecting a reward.
Yann placed a shopping card in her hand and walked straight to Audrey.
“Why are you here too–Ah!” Before Audrey could finish her sentence, she felt weightless as he swept her up in his arms.
She quickly wrapped her arms around his neck and repeated what she’d told Amelia. “I’m really fine. You don’t need to be this worried. You’re making me uncomfortable with all this fuss.”
Yann’s expression was dead serious. Anyone who knew him would recognize he was concerned about his wife, but a stranger might think he’d just lost a fortune.
He reached the kitchen island in just a few steps and gently set her down, pulling out a chair to sit beside her.
“How are you feeling?” Yann asked.
“Dr. Lewis Steven said I’m a bit weak and should go to the hospital for a detailed checkup in a month,” Audrey replied.
Amelia pulled out the chair on Audrey’s other side and sat down. “Audrey, when was your last period?”
“Last time?” Audrey pulled out her phone to check. “It was the 28th.”
“Today’s the 8th, so that means you’re about a month along.” Amelia stood up to grab her bag. “Let’s go to the hospital for a proper checkup. We need to be sure about this.”
Audrey was completely confused. ‘That counts as a month already?‘ she thought. She had assumed they counted from the last time they’d been intimate.
Seeing her bewildered expression, Amelia gave her a basic rundown of pregnancy facts, explaining that the traditional “ten months” wasn’t actually ten calendar months, but rather calculated using four–week periods.
“To be precise, you’re about five weeks along now,” Amelia said, giving Yann a meaningful look.
Yann immediately scooped Audrey up from her chair and headed for the door.
“Put me down, I can walk on my own,” Audrey protested with an exasperated sigh. She’d just gotten pregnant and had already lost he
of herself. ‘How am I going to survive the next nine months?‘ she thought.
“Drive slowly,” Yann reminded Calvin countless times during the ride.
ity to take care
Calvin watched the 19th bike pass their car and didn’t know what to say. ‘Mr. Winifred, you only have eyes for Mrs. Winifred, but if you’d look outside, you’d see pedestrians staring at our turtle–pace car like we’re some kind of spectacle,‘ he thought.
To avoid any misunderstandings, Calvin turned on the hazard lights so other drivers wouldn’t accidentally rear–end them. Finally, their car crawled to a stop at the Ironhaven Medical Center entrance.
Amelia rushed ahead to register and arrange for specialists to consult, while Yann carried Audrey the entire time with an expressionless face.
Audrey leaned against him and could feel his hands trembling slightly as he held her. ‘Should I be going on a diet?‘ she thought.

Calvin wheeled over a wheelchair for her to sit in. Yann shot him a cold look. “That’s not safe. I’ll carry her instead
The specialist who’d received the urgent call rushed to the obstetrics department, where Carson was accompanying Lillian for her checkup. Seeing all the commotion, he curiously asked a colleague what was happening, “What’s going on? Is there an emergency?“:
“Not an emergency. It’s someone the deputy director knows. Apparently, his son’s wife is pregnant, and they’re treating her like precious cargo his colleague said.
“Oh, well that woman sure is lucky,” Carson said with a chuckle, turning around just as Yann carried Audrey into the examination room. That lucky woman looked awfully familiar.
Inside the examination room, the deputy director supervised everything while the obstetrics expert nervously sweated through the entire process, making sure every protocol was followed to the letter.
When it came time for the urine test, Yann would have carried her into the bathroom if Audrey hadn’t strongly protested.
Just two days later, this time, the test strip showed two very clear lines. Lena’s cheeks flushed with excitement, and she was about to spread the news when Amelia snatched her phone away. “Don’t say anything yet,” Amelia said.
“Why not?” Lena looked confused. “Doesn’t Yann want this baby?”
If it weren’t for the fact that Lena had tipped her off earlier, Amelia would have thrown her out of the office entirely. She pulled Lena aside and whispered, “We need to keep this quiet for the first three months. Making a big fuss isn’t good for the baby.”
“Oh, okay,” Lena said. She didn’t really understand, but she obediently agreed.
When the doctor learned that Audrey wasn’t experiencing any discomfort, she thought the family was making a mountain out of a molehill. ‘Every married woman gets pregnant and has children–what’s the big deal?‘ she thought.
Sure, the family could be happy, but they didn’t need to make such a production that the deputy director had to call him back for overtime.
But when the ultrasound results came out, even this doctor started getting nervous. “Based on the ultrasound, you’re having triplets,” she announced.
“Triplets?” Lena’s voice shot up with excitement.
Amelia caught Calvin’s eye and pulled Lena out of the office. “Will carrying triplets harm Audrey’s health in any way?” she asked seriously.
Audrey looked at her, feeling warmth spread through her chest.
Most women would be thrilled to learn their son’s wife was expecting twins, and after the initial excitement, they’d want to know the babies‘ gender and whether they were healthy.
Amelia’s first reaction, however, was to worry about whether carrying multiples might harm Audrey’s body–a concern that put he of other women in her position.

“My wife’s health comes first, no matter what,” Yann said. His tall frame moved to stand directly in front of the gynecologist’s desk, casting a shadow that completely blocked her view.
The doctor felt the weight of his presence pressing down on her as darkness fell across her vision. She looked up at Yann nervously. “Multiple pregnancies definitely put significant strain on the mother’s body.”
She explained that since the fetuses needed to draw nutrients from the mother’s body, more babies meant higher nutritional demands. This often led to anemia, low protein levels, pregnancy–induced hypertension, and other complications in expecting mothers.
After hearing the doctor’s explanation, both Yann and Amelia spoke at the same time, “Then we’ll do selective reduction.”
The optimal window for the procedure was between eight and 11 weeks, and Audrey was currently five and a half weeks along. If they decided on surgery, there was still time.

However, the doctor had an obligation to inform them that every surgery carried risks.
At this stage, they couldn’t determine the gender or health status of the fetuses. The reduction would have to be based solely on their positions shown in
the ultrasound.
The longer the pregnancy progressed, the riskier the procedure became and the more serious the potential harm to the mother.
“Are there any immediate safety concerns? If not, we’re going back to Ashbourne for the procedure.” Ashbourne definitely had superior medical facilities compared to Ironhaven, and having Quentin nearby would make care more convenient.
After Audrey completed her examination and everything checked out fine, everyone agreed to return to Ashbourne.
“The doctor said I’m perfectly fine,” Audrey protested, but Yann wasn’t listening. He insisted on carrying her out of the office.
As soon as they left the consultation room, Carson rushed over to find out what had happened. Even if he hadn’t asked, word would have spread quickly throughout the hospital anyway.
“You should have seen how much her husband spoils her. The moment they found out she was pregnant, he wouldn’t let her walk anywhere. He carried her to every appointment,” one nurse said.
“I had a patient once who was having triplets, and her husband’s mom was over the moon, saying they’d hit the jackpot because having so many children was incredibly lucky.
“But this husband and his mother? The first thing they asked was whether the pregnancy would harm the woman’s health.”
“Marriage is like gambling for women. Lose the bet, and you’re stuck being a servant for life. Without a doubt, she won big. She’s got a husband who truly cares about her and a mom who protects her instead of causing drama.”
Carson looked over at Lillian, whose face had turned dark.
