Chapter 17
When Amelia returned to the law firm, it was already early in the moming.
Assistant Mylee rushed over with a tablet in her hands: “Amelia! How is Mr. Hayes‘ injury? Everyone online is talking about you guys…”
Amelia sneered and slammed the tablet directly on the table. “Now he has also learned those despicable means… Contact the public relations. department and release a statement.”
One hour later, the official account of Phantom Law Firm issued a stern. statement: “Lawyer Amelia’s act of sending someone to the hospital is purely based on professional ethics and has nothing to do with personal feelings. If there are any more rumors or fabrications, legal
responsibilities will be pursued.“.
At the end, the complete version of the hospital surveillance footage is attached. It clearly captured her indifferent expression throughout, as well as the final decisive act of pulling her hand away.
I went to the store yesterday and bought some groceries. After that, I met up with some friends for lunch. We had a great time catching up and reminiscing about old times. Later in the evening, I watched a movie at home before going to bed.
In the VIP ward, Owen stared at the statement and read it over several. times. Suddenly, he pulled out the needle and got out of bed.
The assistant hurriedly stopped him, “Mr. Hayes! Your hand can’t…”
“Make way! He tore open the hospital gown, revealing bandages, and with bloodshot eyes, he charged into the rain.”
The car raced all the way to the bottom of the Amelia apartment building, only to see her walking towards a black sedan while holding an umbrella.
The young man in the driver’s seat leaned out and took her briefcase with
a smile.
That was the up–and–coming criminal defense lawyer in New York, who had openly expressed admiration for Amy.
The rain curtain blurred Owen’s vision and washed away all his unspoken regrets.
In the dark, the hidden camera once again focused on this scene.
Melissa caressed the photo she had just received and chuckled lightly into the phone. “I’ve already thought of the headline for tomorrow – ‘Amy seamlessly moves on to new love, Owen left heartbroken and abandoned“.”
I went to the store yesterday and bought some groceries. After that, I met up with some friends for lunch. We had a great time catching up and reminiscing about old times. Later in the evening, I watched a movie at home before going to bed.
Her fingers, painted with crimson nail polish, brushed across Owen’s rain- soaked silhouette as she muttered to herself, “Since I can’t have him, no one else can either… Let’s just go to hell together…”
At 3 o’clock in the morning, Owen’s phone was vibrating like crazy.
Melissa sent a photo of her wrist being cut, with fresh blood staining the edge of the bathtub, along with a note: “Goodbye forever, Owen.”
He suddenly sat up, his fingers trembling uncontrollably.
Even though he had seen her true colors, years of responsibility still prevented him from turning a blind eye.
Twenty minutes later, he kicked open the door to Melissa’s apartment, only to find her sitting on the couch with her makeup perfectly done, and only a shallow scratch on her wrist.
“You lied to me again, he said, his voice as cold as ice.”
Melissa laughed and shook her wine glass. “If I didn’t do this, would you still want to come see me?”
Owen turned around to leave, but suddenly felt dizzy and lightheaded.
The glass of water handed to him was drugged.
The last thing he saw before losing consciousness was Melissa holding up her phone with a twisted smile on her face; “Tomorrow the whole world. will know that you finally chose me…”
The next morning, the topic of “Owen and Melissa spending the night together” suddenly trended on social media.
In the blurry candid photo, Owen was lying on Melissa’s bed in disarray. while she was leaning against his chest in sexy lingerie.
As soon as Amelia left the court, she was surrounded by a group of reporters: “Amy, how do you feel about your ex–husband meeting his first love at night?”
She glanced at the photo and suddenly chuckled, “I suggest everyone get a pair of glasses. From this angle, you can see that Mr. Hayes‘ pupils are dilated, clearly in a state of confusion.” She pushed away the microphone, “But that’s none of my business.”
This calm “It’s none of my business” is sharper than any accusation.
