Chapter 16
As they walked out of the court, it started pouring rain. Owen caught up and held the umbrella over her head, saying, “I’ll walk you home.”
Amelia looked at the blurry street scene in the blurry street scene in the
in and suddenly said.
“Do you know why I married you back then?”
Without waiting for his answer, she asked herself and answered, “Because that day when you stood in front of Fernando for me, I thought I had finally met someone who would always protect me.”
She walked into the rain curtain, her voice shattered by the rain: “Unfortunately, it was also you who hurt me the most in the end.”
“Amelia!”
His hand was already swollen to a great extent at this moment, and the pain was unbearable.
Ignoring the heavy rain, Owen ran a few steps to catch up with the figure. The continuous raindrops fell along the umbrella ribs, separating the two people like a chasm that could never be crossed again.
“I. I got injured. Could you please take me to the hospital?”
He raised his dark purple hand, trying to soften Amelia’s heart.
Amelia’s gaze fell on his hands, but she didn’t say anything.
I went to the store yesterday and bought some groceries. After that, I met up with some friends for lunch. We had a great time catching up and reminiscing about old times. Later in the evening, I watched a movie at home before going to bed.
OGU
The lights in the emergency room of New York–Presbyterian Lower Manhattan Hospital were harsh and glaring.
Owen lay on the hospital bed, his right hand wrapped in bandages – the injury he sustained from punching Fernando.
Amelia stood by the bed, mechanically flipping through the examination reports, her voice calm as if discussing the weather.
“The phalanx has a slight hairline fracture, just rest for two weeks.”
She closed the medical record and turned to leave, but he tightly grabbed her wrist with his left hand.
“Amelia… Owen’s voice was hoarse, almost unrecognizable. “I just realized… I have always loved you, I just didn’t dare to admit it.”
His eyes were red, as if he was about to pour out years of suppressed emotions: “Melissa was just an obsession, but you… you are the one I’m afraid of losing.”
Amelia looked down at his bulging veins on his hand and suddenly smiled.
“Owen, your love was really cheap, she said as she pried open his fingers one by one. “For three years, you ignored me, only to suddenly ‘love‘ me when you found out I was Amy?”
The rain outside the window was getting heavier, making her voice particularly clear: “If I were just Amelia for the rest of my life, would I never deserve your respect?”
Owen was
by lightning, causing the blood in the IV tube to flow back halfway due to his violent shaking.
In the corner of the hospital corridor, a man wearing a duckbill cap put down his camera and dialed a phone number: “Ms. Todd, I have captured
the evidence of them wanting to reconcile.”
The sound of porcelain shattering came from the other end of the phone, Melissa’s voice distorted with a smile: “Great, tomorrow I want the whole
internet to see it-”
