“Stephie, you have to believe me, those photos are real. I didn’t start the fire. What I said back then was just out of frustration. No matter how awful I may seem, I would never hurt your family!”
Seeing the exhaustion on Maverick’s face, I took a step back. “Don’t lie to me. If you didn’t start the fire, then why were you at my house?”
Maverick explained, “I went to help your dad that day. His business was facing problems, so I gave him some money to help him start over. I never intended to cause any harm!”
“That can’t be true! It just can’t!”
I couldn’t believe it. I refused to believe that all of this was a lie.
It must be Maverick trying to deceive me.
“Stephie, think for a second. What did I say when you left my house that day?”
He grabbed my shoulders, making me look into his eyes.
“I told you to meet me at the City Hall at 9 o’clock the next morning. I asked you to think about it overnight before giving me an answer. I didn’t hear back from you, so why would I hurt your parents?”
Maverick’s words suddenly made everything clear.
Yes, he did give me time to think. I could have answered him the next day. So why would he burn down my parents‘ house that night?
I looked at Maverick, then at Yrian beside me and all the people around us.
Everything was so chaotic, and I felt completely lost like I couldn’t breathe.
I said, “I need a moment to think.”
“Stephie!”
I turned to leave, but Yrian held my hand. He remarked, “I support every decision you make. After you’re done, if you want to leave, go ahead. If you don’t, come back. I’ll be waiting for you.”
“I’m sorry, Yrian.”
I pulled my hand away from his and hurriedly left the wedding.
Back in the dressing room, I was about to remove my veil and change when I noticed a shadow in the mirror.
It was Reagan.
The moment I saw her, a chill ran through my body.
“Reagan.”
I turned around to see Reagan slowly walking toward me, holding a sharp dagger in her hand.
It had only been a few months since we last saw each other, but she looked completely different.

Her usual elegance was gone, replaced by a messy appearance, with dirt covering her clothes.
She glared at me with a dark, almost demonic expression.
“Stephanie, why didn’t you marry Yrian?”
She stepped closer, the dagger pressed against my stomach, but she didn’t stab me.
Her voice was rough and low, much harsher than before.
“If you had married Yrian, Maverick would have been mine!”
“Reagan, did you really kill my parents?”
I glared at her, my fists tightly clenched, hatred burning in my eyes.
She responded, “So what if I did? I originally planned to burn you alive too, so that Maverick would be mine forever! But fate was on your side. You weren’t home that day. If you had been, do you really think you’d still be standing here talking to me?”
She reached out and lifted a corner of my wedding dress with her free hand. “Such a beautiful gown, such a lovely bride! I had a chance to marry Maverick too, a chance to wear a wedding gown like this, but it was all ruined because of you!”
Reagan suddenly became vicious, stabbing the dagger hard into my stomach.
“Ah!”
A sharp pain surged through me, and I winced, staring at the woman in front of me. “Why are you doing this? I’m already divorced from Maverick. Why can’t you just let it go?”
Reagan sneered, “Divorced? What does that matter? Even after the divorce, he still thinks about you every single day!”
She suddenly started crying, her voice full of emotion as she continued, “That night at the bar, I saw you kissing Yrian, and I thought you two were together. I was so relieved. But what about Maverick? He was so jealous that he shattered a glass and hurt himself!
“On the way back, no matter how I tried to please him, no matter how much I tried to seduce him, he was cold and refused to let me into his house. He told me he could never marry me! That’s when I realized, Maverick had already fallen for you! Even if you two are divorced, he will never marry me!”
Reagan glared at me with intense hatred in her eyes.
“Stephanie, you ruined my happiness. Now that the police know I’m the culprit, they’ll catch me soon. So, I’m going to die with you. We’ll both go to hell together!”
