Chapter 25 Leave Him, Come Back to Me
It was the weekend, and Maverick wasn’t at the office, so I went straight to his house to find him.
The maid opened the door, but before they could say anything, I stormed right past them.
“Where’s Maverick?”
I stormed into the living room, but it was empty.
The maid quickly followed me. “Mr. Stone is in the bedroom, Mrs.-”

Before she could finish, I ran up the stairs and opened the door. As soon as I stepped inside, I saw Maverick.
He was getting dressed, his toned body fully visible in the sunlight.
I stood frozen, my face instantly blushing.
I had to admit, Maverick’s physique was impressive. He worked out regularly–wide shoulders, a narrow waist, and tanned skin. I had once been captivated by it.
But now, seeing him like this, it felt as if I had seen something I shouldn’t have.
I quickly turned my head away and scolded, “Why aren’t you dressed in broad daylight?”
“I just woke up. Is it so strange not to be dressed?”
With my back turned to him, I could hear the rustling of clothes as he got dressed.
“Get dressed quickly, I have something to ask
you.
“You can ask.”
Maverick’s tone was calm, not a trace of guilt in his voice.
“You promised you’d keep investing in my dad’s company. So why instead of investing, did you claim his company had problems and have the police take him away?”
Maverick didn’t answer. He just walked past me and went downstairs.
“Esme, is lunch ready?”
“It’s ready, Mr. Stone.”
Maverick sat at the dining table, about to start his meal.
His nonchalant attitude drove me mad.
“Maverick, I’m talking to you. Did you hear me?”
“I’m not deaf.”
The delicate dishes were served, and he began eating slowly and calmly.
While he remained composed, I was about to explode.

“Maverick, you’ve always kept your word, so what changed this time?”
I could barely stop myself from flipping all the dishes off the table, my anger boiling over.
“You said as long as Reagan was happy, you’d reinvest! But instead, you had my dad arrested. What will it take for you to leave me alone?”
The more I spoke, the harder it was to keep my emotions in check.
Maverick put down his knife and fork, lifted his eyes to meet mine, and after a brief pause, said quietly, “I want you to leave Yrian and come back to me.”
“Excuse me?”
I stared at him like he’d lost his mind.
“Do you even know what you’re saying?”
“I won’t say it again. You have one day to decide.”
Then he stood up and walked away.
I stepped in his way, barely holding myself together.
I couldn’t stay calm anymore. This man was driving me insane.
“Maverick, you never loved me, did you? If you don’t love me, then why do you want me back? Why do you change the moment I’m with Yrian? Don’t you dare tell me that somewhere along the way… you actually fell for me!”
I locked eyes with him, watching for any flicker of emotion on his face.
Maverick met my gaze, and then sneered. “You really think I’d fall in love with you?”
“If you don’t love me, then why-
“There’s no reason. I’ll be at the City Hall at nine tomorrow morning. We’re getting remarried.”
“And if I say no?”
“If you say no…” Maverick suddenly leaned in, his face twisted with cold fury, like a demon risen from hell. “Then I can’t guarantee what I’ll do to your parents!”
Looking at that face inches away, and then hearing his threats, I raised my hand and slapped him hard.
“Crazy! You’re a lunatic, Maverick! You’ve completely lost it! If you touch my parents, I swear I won’t let you go!”
I slapped and hit him with full force–blood trickled from the corner of his mouth.
But he didn’t care. He just pulled out a tissue and wiped it away like it was nothing.
“You don’t have much time. From now until 9 a.m. tomorrow–that’s your final chance.”
With those cold words, he turned and walked upstairs.
I stared at his cold, unyielding back and couldn’t stop myself from asking,

“What about Reagan? Don’t you love her? She’s always wanted to be Mrs. Stone–yet you’re trying to get back with me. Have you ever thought about what she’ll do when she finds out?”
Maverick stopped in his tracks.
He didn’t turn around. Didn’t respond.
After a long silence, he finally continued up the stairs.
