Chapter 11 Whose Child Did You Abort?
“Good! Stephanie, I’ll grant your wish.”
Maverick picked up the pen and signed the divorce papers with swift, decisive strokes.
His signature was just as elegant as it had been on our marriage certificate.
I realized this would likely be the last time our names appeared together.
Seeing his signature finally brought me a strange sense of relief.
As I stood to leave, my vision blurred and my legs wobbled dangerously.
A wave of dizziness washed over me, making even Maverick’s face appear hazy.
I steadied myself against the table, stuffed the agreement into my bag, and then called Yrian to come pick me
- up.
By the time I finished, I barely had the strength left to stand.
I managed a few unsteady steps before turning back to look at Robert.
His wrinkled face was etched with sorrow as he watched me.
“Grandpa, I’ll come visit you when I have time.”
With that, I turned to leave, but before I could take a step, I fell to the ground, my bag and its contents scattered around me.
Among them was my medical record book.
The abortion report.
My heart lurched as I reached for it, but Maverick was faster.
His brow furrowed as he flipped open the file. “What’s this?”
I reached out to snatch it back. “Give it back to me. It’s none of your business!”
But it was too late. Maverick opened the report and saw my surgical records.
His eyes scanned the surgical notes, then snapped up to mine. “You had an abortion?” His voice shook. “Whose child was it? Mine?”
I bit my lip, my body swaying, as I weakly said, “It’s none of your business, give it back to me. Maverick, we have nothing to do with each other anymore. You have no right to look through my stuff!”
“What’s this about an abortion?” Robert stepped closer, but Maverick yanked me forward by the wrist. He bellowed, “Stephanie, I want you to explain yourself. Whose child did you abort? Mine? Or his?” As he pointed at the door, Yrian happened to just arrived.
Yrian rushed over, pulling me free while murmuring, “What’s wrong? Stephie, let’s get you out of here.”

Chapter 11 Whose Child Did You Abort?
“So this is why you wanted the divorce? You’ve been fucking him all along, haven’t you?”
Maverick hurled the medical report at my feet. “Stephie, how could you be this shameless?”
“Yes, I am shameless.”
I met his glare without flinching. “But so are you. If you can dote on Reagan, why can’t I move on?”
Maverick was speechless. After a long silence, a muscle twitched in his jaw as he stared at me. “Tell me. Was that child mine?”
“It’s yours.
“It was.” No point lying now. “Two months along.”
“Why did you have to abort our child?!”
Maverick shook his head, a rare look of sorrow and indignation on his face.
“You kill our child just to cut ties with me? Just to be with him?”
“You’re the one hurting him, not me.”
I sneered. “I told you last night that I had a stomachache, but you didn’t care, did you? Again. Because Reagan always comes first!”
The realization dawned on his face. “You weren’t just causing drama last night-”
“That’s right. In your eyes, I’m always the troublemaker. I will never be as good as Reagan. Even if I’d bled to death at your feet, you wouldn’t have noticed! Maverick, keep this in mind, you’re the one who killed this child! You’re the one who ignored my pleas. It’s you who killed him with your indifference!”
My voice broke into a sob.
How could I not feel sad? How could it not be heartbreaking? That was my first child, but he died at the hands of his father, at the hands of the man I loved the most. How could I not be heartbroken?
I closed my eyes, tears streaming down my cheeks.
My heart ached so much I felt like I was going to die.
“Maverick, I don’t want to see you ever again.”
