Chapter 19 Miracle
Still, it was someone else’s business, and no matter how curious he was, it wasn’t his place to ask.
“Alright, I’ll wait,” William said, trying to stay patient.
That wait ended up dragging on for nearly three hours.
He had more coffee and tea than he could count, and by now, his nerves were fried.
“Hugh, listen, I think I’ll head back,” William finally said, pushing his cup away.
“I think I’ve shown enough goodwill here.”

He sighed and added, “Given everything that’s happened with Mrs. Nolan today, our store truly regrets the misunderstanding.”
After a pause, his tone softened.
“We were hoping to offer a discount to ease her mind. But since Mr. and Mrs. Nolan aren’t here, I don’t want to intrude any longer.”
What he meant was clear: once he walked out with the item, it wouldn’t be at half–price anymore.
As the butler, Hugh was naturally loyal to the family and bound to preserve his employer’s interest.
Without hesitation, he stepped in to stop William from leaving.
“Please wait a little longer.”
William frowned. “Now you’re putting me in a tough spot.”
Hugh smiled apologetically at him and said, “Just give me a moment–I’ll go check again.”
William glanced at his watch and gave the ultimatum. “You’ve got 30 minutes. No more.”
Meanwhile, at the hospital, nurses helped Alice wheel Eric into the trauma unit.
The place was packed with all kinds of medical equipment.
Right now, Eric was barely hanging on, with just a thread of life sustained by the needles. The machines could help revive him–but only if they worked fast.
The doctors rushed to begin resuscitation, but Alice had her own method in mind.
Without hesitation, she started using the machines.
One of the doctors grabbed her shoulder. “You’re not a physician. Step aside!“.
But Alice stayed locked onto Eric, ignoring the doctor entirely as she reached for another device.
The doctor flew into a rage.
Just because you know how to use needles doesn’t mean you can perform a surgery. Step back!”
“No surgery needed, Alice said calmly, not even lifting her head.

The doctor was almost driven mad by her. “If something goes wrong—

“I’ll take full responsibility,” Alice interrupted, and then yanked the machine closer.
She didn’t need any help. Her hands moved so fast they blurred in the air.
The nurses exchanged stunned glances with the doctor, truly amazed by her capability.
This wasn’t the first time they’d seen talented doctors handle emergency situations.
But Alice wasn’t just skilled–she was something else entirely.
Then, they practiced medicine, but Alice was a miracle worker.
Cough! Cough!
Eric suddenly jerked upright, coughing violently, and spat out a mouthful of dark, clotted blood.
Slowly, his eyes opened.
“He’s awake!” a doctor shouted, astonished.

They had thought he was as good as gone. But now, against all odds, a miracle had brought him back.
Alice finally let out a breath of relief and wiped the sweat from her brow.
Next came the scolding.
“Next time, you won’t be so lucky,” she muttered.
Eric wiped the corner of his mouth. “Your driving was the problem. How is this my fault?”
Alice glared at him.
The brakes had failed.
If she hadn’t reacted fast, he’d be chatting with the Grim Reaper by now.
And this ungrateful jerk had the nerve to sass her?
She almost wanted to slap him just to remind him to swallow his pride after she saved his life.
A doctor stepped forward. “Miss, could I have your contact info?”
The hospital was always looking for new talent–and Alice clearly had it.
And someone like her? She needed to be here.
She smiled faintly and pointed at Eric.
“I’m his wife. If you want my number, you’ll need his permission.”
The doctor’s jaw dropped.
Wait–wasn’t she that long–lost heiress people were talking about? The one who grew up in the countryside?

That couldn’t be right.
How could a bumpkin from a small town have such skills?
“Miss, are you messing with me?”
No contact info was one thing–but lying?
Alice turned to Eric and asked, “Mr. Nolan, what do you say?”
Eric pressed his lips together and didn’t respond.
The doctor still looked skeptical–until Stanley rushed in, flanked by a dozen men in black suits.
Only then did the medical staff truly grasp who they were dealing with.
“Mr. Nolan,” Stanley said quickly, “what now?”
He glanced at the emergency room and frowned.
“Prepare a room for Mr. Nolan,” the doctor offered.
“No need,” Eric replied, waving a hand as he climbed off the gurney.
“We’re going home.”
A cold glint flickered in Alice’s eyes.
Whoever had done this to them—whoever had tried to take their lives–was going to pay.
Back at the mansion, the car pulled up to the front entrance.
William had just stepped outside when they arrived.
Hugh was still there, offering awkward apologies.
“I’m truly sorry. Once we reach Mr. Eric, we’ll be sure to get back to you.”
William waved him off.
“Don’t bother. Like I said, it was a one–time deal. Half–price only today. That’s it.”
Hugh’s expression faltered.
He’d already tried every polite approach in the book, and it still hadn’t worked.
“Hugh, don’t take it personally,” William said with a shrug. “We’re both just doing our jobs. No point in making
life harder for each other.”
