Chapter 10

When Piper saw him, she looked surprised.

Declan, is Riley really that immature?

She knows how hard you work, and she still kept you up all night fighting?

That comment made Declan even more irritated.[]

Actually, Riley was the most considerate about his work schedule.[

Even with her huge belly, she’d always have soup ready when he came home from night shifts, just so he could get proper rest

But this time

Piper could tell something was off, so she pressed him.[

What’s wrong? Is Riley still mad? I’m not even holding a grudge

Riley asked for a divorce and moved out.

Piper froze for a second, instinctively glancing at Chloe

But then she quickly waved it off.[]

Don’t worry, Riley can’t live without you.[

She’s probably just throwing a tantrum.[

Acting out because she thinks being pregnant gives her a free pass to be a bitch.[

But Declan… you should probably go smooth things over. What if she gets so pissed off she refuses to have the baby?

Declan shook his head confidently

That won’t happen.”

He knew Riley wanted this baby more than anything.[

Declan stayed to play with Chloe a bit longer before leaving

On his way back to his office, every doctor and nurse he passed was whispering to their colleagues.[

He frowned, confused.

But the second he got to his office, the department head called him in.

Where the hell were you for three days? Do you know how many times your colleagues tried to reach you?

Declan opened his mouth but couldn’t come up with a good excuse

As a doctor, putting his phone on airplane mode and going MIA for three days was inexcusable.

I’m sorry, sir. I had some personal issues, but I did my rounds as soon as I got back. All my patients are fine.”

The department head slammed his hand on the desk. Can’t even handle your own family! Your seven months pregnant wife having a miscarriage and coming to the hospital alone is all over the gossip mill, and you’re saying everything’s fine?!

Declan’s world stopped.

His face went white, and he couldn’t hear anything else the department head was saying

He just kept asking: What did you say?

mean my wife had a miscarriage?[

onfirmation, he collapsed into the chair like someone had knocked the wind out of him.[

nt head sighed heavily.[
