Declan’s expression darkened immediately.
The gentle fingers that had been touching my cheek suddenly dug into my face, gripping it painfully in front of everyone.
“Riley!”
“I’m gone for two fucking seconds and you’re throwing drinks at a sick kid?!“[]
“Chloe’s just a little kid! Are you really that jealous of her?“]
I knocked his hand away, my cheek throbbing.]
“Are you blind? Piper slapped ME first!“]
Declan’s face went red, a vein bulging in his forehead as he got in my face.
“Bullshit! Piper wouldn’t hurt a fly. What did you say to her? What kind of sick shit did you pull?“]
“You must’ve really crossed the line for her to snap like that!“]
Tears were streaming down my face now, and I could feel people staring.
“You’re unbelievable! Your precious Piper can do no wrong, right?“]
“Even when there are witnesses!“[]
Some guy at the next table couldn’t take it anymore.[]
“Yo, man, I literally watched the whole thing go down. That blonde chick hit your pregnant wife first. You’re being a real asshole right now.”
“What kind of husband takes some other woman’s side over his own wife?”
Declan’s hands were shaking as he clenched them into fists.
He turned to Chloe, trying to control his voice.[]
“Chloe, sweetie, can you tell me what happened? Did the lady throw wine on you?“]
Chloe was still sobbing and could only nod through her tears.
Declan immediately scooped her up in his arms.]
“What do you have to say for yourself now?”
I felt completely defeated.]
“I didn’t throw anything at her. Believe whatever the hell you want.“[]
I stood up to leave, but Declan grabbed my arm.]
“Apologize.”
“Say you’re sorry to Chloe and Piper. Right now!“]
I actually laughed.]
Anyone watching would think I was the homewrecker who’d broken up their perfect little family.]
Declan kept his grip tight on my arm. When it was clear he wasn’t backing down, I nodded.]
“Tine. I’ll apologize.”
The second Declan let go, I slapped Piper right back across the face.

“RILEY!”
Piper’s head snapped to the side from the force, and Declan shoved me so hard I stumbled backward.[]
I lost my balance completely and slammed belly–first into the corner of the table behind me.[]
The pain was so intense I could barely stay upright, but Declan just grabbed Chloe with one arm, took Piper’s hand with the other, and walked right past me without a second glance.]
