The next day, Vincent and I didn’t hold a thank–you banquet.
The Reed family was busy consoling Isabella, so no one bothered to ask about my situation.
I stayed home with Margaret, studying recipes and packing for the trip to Pearl Harbor base.
My life had never been so peaceful.
I didn’t have to worry about getting beaten by Robert and Carol today, nor did I have to become a breeding tool–I could just live an easy life.
Soon, Vincent’s month–long leave came to an end.
Late at night, Vincent had just pulled me into his arms and was about to speak when shouting came from outside the window.
“Eleanor! Something’s happened at your house–go take a look!”
Hearing this voice, I rolled my eyes and burrowed back under the covers.
Seeing my reaction, Vincent couldn’t help but laugh.
I wanted to ignore the shouting, but our neighbor Lily’s knocking on the door grew louder and louder–she clearly

wasn’t planning to give up.

To avoid waking Margaret, I returned to my parents‘ house with Vincent accompanying me.
I was curious and wanted to see what all the fuss was about.
“My mother says you’re my wife, so you can only stay at my house.”
As soon as I walked in, I saw Frank breathing heavily while gripping Isabella’s wrist, completely ignoring her bruised and swollen face.
My parents were trying to persuade Frank, but when they saw me, they immediately became displeased.
“Eleanor! Come over here and help! You’re partly responsible for what happened to Isabella!”
Looking at their fawning faces toward Frank and their harsh expressions toward me, I suppressed my disgust.
“Are you feeling unwell?” Vincent frowned and helped me to the side.
“I might have eaten too much at dinner–don’t worry.” I patted the back of his hand gently and looked at the others.
“From today on, I have nothing to do with the Reed family.

Whether Isabella lives or dies has nothing to do with me.
Carol flew into a rage and rushed over, wanting to hit me.
But Vincent caught her raised arm.
“Vincent, let go of me. I raised her–can’t I discipline her?”

Vincent sneered, “Eleanor is my wife now. You cannot harm her.”
The soldier who had been to war carried an aura of deadly authority, and Carol didn’t dare move.
