The next time I heard news of Connor and Chloe was on the day of my engagement to Jackson Reed. The engagement party had just ended, and a heavy rain beg- an to fall as we drove home. Chloe suddenly stepped out into the pouring rain, blocking our car, her back ramrod straight. “Ms. Hayes, I hope you’ll leave Connor alone. You’re already divorced. He’s my husband now.”
I frowned, displeased. “What you’re saying could easily make my fiancé misunderstand. I felt a pang of regret. Jackson was too rational, too perceptive. I probably wouldn’t ever get to see him jealous for me in this lifetime. But I didn’t expect that two hours later, I would bear the full brunt of his jealousy. It was utterly overwhelming.
