Chapter 5
Clang!
The sound of a glass hitting the floor cut off Sebastian before he could. finish what he was saying.
Sophia leaped out of Sebastian’s arms like a startled rabbit.
“Elodie, you’re awake!” she cried as she rushed to the bedside, her face covered in tears. “How do you feel? Does it still hurt? This is all my fault…”
Elodie gave a weak grin, filled with coldness. “How could I feel okay when you’re here, making things worse?”
Sophia’s sobs grew louder, and her shoulders shook as if she’d been deeply wronged.
She pressed her lips together, shot one last glance at Sebastian, and then rushed out.
Sebastian instinctively stepped forward to follow her but stopped himself halfway.
Turning back to Elodie, he spoke quietly, “Ms. Elodie, everything happened so fast. I didn’t have time to think.”
Elodie said nothing. She simply turned her face toward the window.
She didn’t want to hear anything.
For three entire days, Sebastian stood silently outside her hospital

room like a loyal bodyguard, but she never spoke to him once.
Not until the day she left the hospital.
Elodie limped into the study, her injured leg still not fully recovered.
She pulled open a carved wooden drawer and took out a black leather whip that gleamed under the light.
This was a punishment tool passed down in the Rowland family. Just one strike could cut into the skin.
“Call Sebastian,” she told the butler.
When Sebastian stepped inside, Elodie was calmly cleaning the whip.
Sunlight streamed through the tall windows, outlining her lashes in shadows.
“You’re my bodyguard, Sebastian, and you failed to keep me safe. I’m going to discipline you. Do you have any objection?” she said, lifting her head.
Sebastian didn’t move, but his eyes narrowed slightly.
Elodie noticed it all.
The Houston Scion probably never imagined that one day, someone. would use the family’s rules to punish him.
After all, he was the only son of the Malfoy family, everyone tried to please him. No one dared to lay a finger on him…
And now, she actually wanted to whip him?
Elodie stared at his face, then let out a faint chuckle.

He was hesitating.
He could have walked away right then, could have resigned without hesitation, yet here he was hesitating?
Was it all because of Sophia?
So he could stay close to her and remain by her side?
Elodie’s chest tightened, her laughter almost turning into tears.
Sebastian clenched his jaw, then muttered quietly, “I have no objection.”
At that second, something shifted inside Elodie. She gripped the whip tightly and swung her arm into the air.
“Please stop!”
A slim figure suddenly jumped between them, blocking the whip from. landing.
Tears filled Sophia’s eyes, and her voice shook as she said, “Elodie, hit me instead. This has nothing to do wit
Sebastian!”
“Move,” Elodie said coldly.
Sophia cried, “No! I was the one who caused your injury. If someone should take the punishment, it’s me…”
Sebastian grabbed her arm gently to move her aside. “Ms. Sophia, you shouldn’t be involved in this.”
However, Sophia stood her ground firmly and wouldn’t take a single step away from him.

Elodie’s rage exploded as she took a hard swing with the whip.
Smack!
The loud snap echoed through the air. She had meant to strike Sebastian, but to her shock, Sophia jumped in the way and took the hit instead.
“Ahh!”
Sophia cried out in pain. Her thin figure trembled before collapsing.
Sebastian quickly grabbed her, checked her condition, and then looked
- up.
Elodie was staring into a pair of ice–cold eyes.
Within them burned a fierce, murderous intent.
For a moment, it felt like he might leap forward and strangle her without a second thought.
She stood frozen as if trapped in a freezing storm.
“Get out!” Her voice trembled as the word came out.
Without another glance, Sebastian lifted the unconscious girl and walked away. The study door crashed shut behind him with a deafening bang.
Elodie stayed rooted in place, realizing her hands were shaking too much to even grip the whip properly.
