After questioning him the entire flight, Seraphina felt she’d gotten a pretty good grasp of Zayden’s real situation, and finally agreed to forgive him.]
He was overjoyed and ecstatic. The moment they got off the plane, he took her home.
Before going to Switzerland, she’d promised to meet his family when they returned.]
But when the car drove into the villa district in the heart of California, Seraphina fell silent.[]
She turned to stare at Zayden, her tone meaningful.
“The Monroe family of California–this is what you call an ordinary background?“]
“It’s not normal? Huh. Guess my parents did too good a job teaching me humility.“[]
Seraphina realized for the first time that Zayden was actually quite the smooth talker.
Just as she was about to say something, the car stopped.
And then she saw them.
No fewer than a dozen people waiting outside the grand iron gates.
Her always calm and calculating eyes, now show some shock.
She thought they were just dropping by to say hi to a couple relatives. What the hell was this–an inquisition?
Before she could react, Zayden opened the car door, pulled her out and started making introductions.
“Everyone, this is my fiancée, Seraphina Vale.”
“Sera, this is my dad, mom, older brother, that’s my aunt,
uncle.”
On and on he went. Seraphina didn’t even dare lift her gaze.
Though she’d heard of the Monroe family, neither at he
parents‘ home nor after marrying Cassian had she had any opportunity to interact with them.
Only Zayden’s older brother, the so–called iceberg who helmed Monroe Industries, she’d seen a few times at events.
And he seemed to remember her too, casting several coid glances her way.
Seraphina’s already racing heart became even more frantic.]
After enduring a round of formal pleasantries, she finally excused herself to the restroom for a moment of peace. But as she stepped out, she ran right into him.]
Dorian Monroe.
He stood there like he’d been waiting for her. And when she emerged, he extended his hand with cold eyes.
“We didn’t get a proper introduction earlier. Thought I’d correct that now.
Tell me–should I call you Miss Vale, or Mrs. Blake?“]
That one sentence made the smile she’d just put on freeze on her lips.
But she quickly calmed down, shaking his cold hand and answering with dignity.
“Miss Vale is fine. My marriage to Cassian Blake is completely over.“[]
“Just ended, and you’re already with Zayden and engaged?”
His pressuring interrogation made Seraphina’s scalp tingle.[]
Her mind raced, trying to find a reasonable explanation.[]
But no matter how she phrased it, it would sound strange and improper once spoken.[]
After thinking it over, she felt nothing would sound right, so she decided to just tell the truth

Seraphina roughly calculated and felt nervous.[]
She knew what he was implying–suspecting she’d used her age advantage to seduce a young man.[]

But things had already reached this point, and Zayden hadn’t said he was giving up, so she didn’t want to show weakness in front of his brother. She gathered her courage.

Silence settled over the narrow hallway.[]
