Chapter 6
Before Seraphina could react, someone shoved her hard from behind
She crashed into the coffee table, her forehead slamming against the sharp corner. Blood immediately started trickling down.[]
The pain was so intense her face went white. She gasped and looked back at Cassian. He just burst through the door.[]
But his eyes weren’t on her. He was holding Delilah’s injured finger, cleaning it and putting on a band–aid, his eyes full of concern he couldn’t hide.[]
And now Seraphina understood. Delilah had been putting on a show.[]
She shakily got to her feet and picked up the blood–stained tiara, holding it out to Delilah.
Cassian thought she was rubbing it in Delilah’s face and anger flared up inside him.]
Just as he was about to lose his shit, Seraphina beat him to it.[]
“You want it? Take it. It’s yours.“[]
The unexpected response left Delilah speechless. She even forgot to keep up the fake tears.[]
Cassian was confused too, his brow furrowed.]
“That’s from my parents. For you.“[]
For her?
No. For their daughter–in–law.]
And she wouldn’t be their daughter–in–law much longer.]
Seraphina set the tiara down. “I don’t like bloody things. Bad luck. She can have it.”
Without another glance at either of them, she walked out of the office.]]
Watching her act like she didn’t give a damn, Cassian’s frown deepened.
Since they’d gotten married, Seraphina had two well–known obsessions: buying real estate and collecting jewelry. That’s why he always used those things to make up with her after fights.
A priceless collector’s piece like this, and she just… didn’t want it?]
On Seraphina’s birthday, Cassian still didn’t come home.[]
At the party, everyone kept asking where he was.]
“Is he planning some kind of surprise?“]]

All the guests turned to see Delilah supporting a very drunk Cassian, looking flustered in the doorway.
With so many people staring, her face turned bright red and she started stammering.[]
“S–sorry to interrupt everyone. I’m just bringing Mr. Blake home.“[]
It was Seraphina’s birthday. Why was Cassian out getting wasted?]]
That question was on everyone’s mind.[]
Seraphina seemed unfazed. She put down her glass and walked over to help Cassian inside.[]
But he refused to let go of Delilah’s hand. He was holding her close. And right in front of everyone, he kissed her forehead.[]
Delilah’s face turned even redder.]]
Everyone looked shocked.[]
Seraphina acted like she hadn’t seen anything and tried to pull him away more firmly.[]
Cassian pushed her off irritably. Then buried his face in Delilah’s neck, his voice low and intimate.]]

The entire room went dead silent.[]

The fake concern made Seraphina want to gag.
She didn’t bother calling out the bullshit. Instead, she stepped back and cleared a path.[]
“The bedroom’s upstairs, last door on the left. You can take him up.“[]
