Her vision was shrouded in darkness, but her hearing sharpened in compensation. She could distinctly hear the voices. outside the car.
“Ethan, tell me, whose kissing skills are better, mine or Rose’s?”
“Isn’t it obvious? Of course, it’s you. Rose is clueless about that stuff. Every kiss we shared was barely a touch, and she wouldn’t even allow me to kiss her properly. If she weren’t so dull, I wouldn’t have broken up with her.”
“So, how was it in bed? Did she just lie there like a statue?”
Rose’s cheeks burned with shame, her fists clutching Houston’s shirt tightly. Feeling her distress, Houston hit the gas, the car speeding off with a thunderous roar.
The sudden movement startled Ethan and Vivian, making them stumble back in shock. Vivian snapped, “Are you insane? Don’t you know I’m pregnant? What if something happened to my baby? What if I miscarried? Could you afford to pay for
in?”
Houston slammed on the brakes, bringing the car to a sudden stop.
Vivian froze, her earlier bravado gone in an instant.
Rose grabbed Houston’s armi, silently asking him to let it go.
Houston said, “Let me deal with him for you.”
Rose replied, “He’s not worth it.”
She stepped out of the car.
Ethan and Vivian’s faces turned pale the moment they saw her. Rose’s gaze was cold and unwavering, piercing Ethan and leaving him squirming with discomfort.
“Ethan, you’re disgusting. Rose said flatly.
The words hit like a slap, branding him as a shameless lowlife.
Ethan’s face burned with embarrassment.
As Rose walked away, she turned back to wave at Houston, her icy expression softening into a gentle smile.
Ethan and Vivian craned their necks, trying to get a better look at the driver. All they could make out was the tall silhouette of

When did Rose start associating with someone so influential!
As Houston drove off, Vivian suddenly ran after Rose, her tone dripping with mockery. “Rose, who was that man who dropped you off?”
The casual familiarity in her tone made it seem as though she hadn’t stolen Rose’s boyfriend or caused her mother’s health
Rose, amazed at Vivian’s audacity, chose not to respond and kept walking.
Vivian pouted in frustration, then shouted after her, “Rose, we grew up together as best friends! Are you really going to ignore me forever? Why are you being so petty?”
Rose stopped, turned, and walked back to her. “This isn’t about pettiness. I just don’t want to associate with someone whose morals are so warped. From now on, pretend you don’t know me. I don’t know you”
Vivian protested, “Rose, fine, I’ll introduce you to some of my friends to make up for taking Ethan. Can’t we just move on?”

“Do you not understand? I’m not upset you took Ethan–I’m grateful. You helped me realize what a scumbag he is. I just don’t want to be around you because your character is rotten. Birds of a feather Block together, and I want nothing to do with your circle of friends”
Without another word, she turned and walked away.
Ethan, humiliated and furious, yelled. “R
“Rose, with that sharp tongue of yours, no one will ever love you!”
Without turning around, Rose replied. I’d rather not be loved by scumbags.”
Ethan was left fuming, unable to respond.
At a shadowy street corner, a Mercedes lay hidden in the darkness. Houston’s face glimmered with an unsettling coldness.
Though Rose remained unshaken by their taunts, Houston’s anger simmered as he witnessed Ethan and Vivian’s shamelessness.
He pulled out his phone and made a quick call, giving concise instructions. Moments later, a roaring sports car pulled up in front of Ethan and Vivian.
The sudden stop made them both recoil in fear.
“What’s with the parking: You could’ve hurt my wifel Ethan shouted, trying to mask his nervousness
Several burly men stepped out of the car, flexing their muscles
Ethan stumbled backward, stammering, “It’s fine, it’s fine! Just go. My wife’s fine.”
One of the men walked up to Ethan and delivered a solid kick to his stomach, sending him to the ground..
Ethan doubled over, groaning in pain, while Vivian screamed hysterically. “Stop! Help! Please, stop!”
Curied up on the ground, Ethan whimpered, “Stop! I was wrong! I was wrong!”
One of the men’s phones rang. After a brief conversation, he signaled for the others to stop. He then placed the phone on speaker near Ethan’s car.

A chillingly cold voice came through. “Ethan, listen carefully. If I ever hear you mention Rose’s name again, the consequences. will be far more severe than just a beating.”
Ethan trembled as he asked, “Who… who are you?”
“You’re not worthy of knowing” the voice replied before the call ended.
The group finished their job, climbed into their sports car, and disappeared into the night. Ethan lay on the ground, battered and shaking-
Vivian quickly pulled Ethan to his feet, his body bruised and bloodstained.
Vivian, her voice filled with distress, said, “Ethan, let’s report this to the police.”
Ethan, his expression clouded with rage, growled, “There’s no need. I’ll find out who’s responsible for this. He won’t get away
with it“
With Vivian supporting him, Ethan limped to Rose’s house and kicked the door open in frustration.
“Rose, come out here right now!
Rose opened the door, her expression flickering briefly with surprise before settling into a calm and detached look “Ethan, I’m a psychiatrist. If you’re here for medical help, you’re at the wrong place”
Ethan’s eyes searched hers, looking for the concern he thought she would show upon seeing his unjuries. Yet, disappointment, her face betrayed no hint of worry or sympathy

Rose’s expression didn’t change, remaining unreadable as if she didn’t understand what Vivian was accusing her of
Ethan, speaking weakly, said, “Rose, I don’t think you’re capable of something like this. But the guy behind those thugs called me, and every word he said made it clear he was standing up for you. I’m certain the man who dropped you off earlier is the one who attacked me. Rose, just tell me who is he? You’re not going to stand by and let him treat me like this, are you?”
