Chapter 166
Audrey stared into Yann’s eyes and asked cautiously. “This isn’t a sex booster, is it?”
She thought Yann’s sexual ability was already strong enough–if he took performance–enhancing drugs, she’d be in trouble.
Yann scoffed and pulled her into his arms. “Guess I haven’t been trying hard enough.”
“That’s not what I meant.” Audrey quickly braced her hands against his chest, but he grabbed her wrists and pinned them behind her back.
Warm breath neared. Yann’s shadow completely enveloped her, and then he kissed her fiercely. The more she struggled, the tighter his grip became.
Audrey glanced sideways at the front seat–Calvin and the driver had already gotten out of the car and stood facing away, talking at the front of the
vehicle.
The driver handed Calvin a cigarette, which he took, then patted the driver’s shoulder, as if approving of his discretion.
“Stop…” Audrey weakly tried to stop Yann.
Yann seemed annoyed by the implied doubt about his sexual ability. Instead of stopping, he fully pressed her down onto the seat.
Audrey lay back in the seat, barely able to stretch her legs before they were immediately hooked around Yann’s waist.
“So eager?” His bewitching voice made her heart race.
Audrey felt helpless, so she rubbed her leg against his crotch and mocked, “Who’s the eager one here?”
Yann hissed and bit her earlobe as punishment.
She couldn’t help moaning. Annoyed, Audrey bit his neck. Her body seemed to be perfectly matched with his–he could easily ignite her desire, but the car was clearly not the place for this.
Just then, Yann’s phone vibrated in his pocket. Audrey hurried to say, “Answer the call.”
Yann didn’t move. Audrey couldn’t see his expression, but from his heaving chest and controlled breathing, she could tell he was adjusting his mood.
Voices sounded outside the car. Audrey pushed Yann again, and he finally sat up. His desire was still obvious, but his eyes had grown cold and composed. “Hello, Earl,” he answered the phone in a normal tone.
Audrey quickly straightened her rumpled clothes and looked out the car window.
The two people who had gone to see the doctor earlier came out. The female assistant seemed to have said something unpleasant, as the heavily veiled person pushed her hard.
The assistant fell to the ground, quickly stood up, grabbed the medicine bag, and chased after them. The veiled person got into the car without waiting for the assistant. The assistant ran after the car for a moment before it stopped to let her in.
A hand cradled the back of Audrey’s head, and she turned to look at Yann, who had hung up the phone.
She asked, “Did the government ask you to check on the project?”
Yann nodded and said, “Hawdia Group was reported for financial fraud. During the investigation, the project needs a new leader.”
Audrey suddenly remembered something and pointed at the receding car. The last time she’d scolded an arrogant woman in the bathroom, she’d deliberately mentioned Hawdia Group to mislead her.
Later, Audrey had heard that when the woman fell, she’d hit her butt on the stairs and injured a nerve, making her walk awkwardly. The person just now had walked with a similar stiffness.
Chapter 166
After hearing her, Yann rolled down the window and called, “Calvin.”
“Mr. Winifred?” Calvin quickly dropped his cigarette butt and came over.
Yann said, “Find out who that patient was just now.”
“Yes.” Calvin went back into the clinic and quickly returned to report, “Steven said it was a woman with a sciatic nerve injury named Yelena Carlos
“She must be from Kuinpul Group,” Audrey added. “Hawdia Group was probably reported by her.”
Calvin immediately called to investigate.
They got back in the car and headed for the project command center. On the way, someone sent Yelena’s information to Calvin’s phone. He handed it to Yann to read, who then passed it to Audrey.
Yelena Carlos, 25, was about to marry the man she’d loved for three years. With the wedding date approaching, her fall had left her walking stiffly. Doctors said she could recover with consistent rehabilitation, but the timeline was uncertain.
However, her fiancé’s mother couldn’t accept the possibility of a disabled daughter–in–law and had an ultimatum–if Yelena couldn’t recover before the wedding, it would be canceled. If her leg didn’t improve, the family would likely find another bride for their son.
Yelena had seen many doctors, all recommending rehabilitation with no clear recovery timeline. She’d finally sought out Stevan. After treatment, she could walk independently, though still stiffly.
Perhaps Calvin had bribed Steven or had connections, but the doctor had violated protocol to reveal the patient’s condition.
Before treatment, Steven had warned Yelena that rapid recovery required strong medicine with inevitable side effects.
Yelena had said, “Even if I can’t stand up the day after the wedding, I want a perfect ceremony.”
Her beloved came from a wealthy family. That explained her desperation for treatment.
The Maybach smoothly entered the municipal government compound and stopped in front of the main building.
Yann said, “I’ll have them prepare a room for you to rest?”
“No, I’ll just stay in the car. Go handle your work.” Audrey helped Yann adjust his collar. If she’d known he had work to do, she wouldn’t have bitten so hard–the mark was still visible.
She covered the bite mark with his collar and nodded in satisfaction. “Go.”
Yann got out of the car. In the elevator, he opened his collar and admired the mark on his neck from the elevator’s reflection, satisfied.
Calvin was speechless. This would only confirm the rumors that Calvin was gay.
Two men of similar build but contrasting demeanors entered the conference room, and everyone present stood up.
Yann walked directly to the main seat, and Earl smiled to shake his hand. “Sorry to trouble you, Mr. Winifred.”
“No problem, it’s my job,” Yann responded politely./
Earl felt something hard on Yann’s hand and looked down. When he’d first received Yann during his investment in 1. Now a simple yet elegant ring adorned his left ring finger.
en, Yann hadn’t worn a ring.
Given Yann’s status, even an engagement would warrant a Darkshell International announcement. The low–profile marriage suggested his wife’s identity was sensitive, leading Earl to recall gossip. As he withdrew his hand, Earl looked at Calvin, who never left Yann’s side.
Calvin’s eyes quickly scanned Yann’s neck, thinking his behavior was childish.
Chapter 166
Earl was startled. Men of his generation struggled to accept homosexuality, but Yann had invested in tronhaven’s emerging industries and resolved stalled projects for Calvin’s sake.
Earl was startled. Men of his age could hardly accept homosexuality. But because of Calvin, Yann had not only invested in emerging industries in Ironhaven but also helped solve the uncompleted project.
For the sake of his achievements, Earl suppressed his discomfort. Appeasing Calvin was the best way to repay Yann.
Earl told his secretary, “Add another chair.”
