Chapter 35%
Something inside me snapped
The room blurred. The edges of my vision turned red !!
“What?”
Miranda grinned, licking her lips like she had just revealed her greatest masterpiece. “It was me. I planned it. Paid for it with Rafael Executed it perfectly. And guess what? He was supposed to die.” She let out a dramatic sigh. “Too bad he’s still breathing. But don’t worry,
Before I could think, before I could breathe. I pulled the trigger-
But the shot never fired.
A sharp sting exploded in my neck.
My grip slackened. My vision swam. The gun slipped from my fingers.
Tranquilizer!
As my knees buckled, Miranda’s laughter echoed in the darkness, the last thing I heard before the world faded away.!! “Goodnight, bitch.”
A low hum filled the car, steady and constant. My limbs felt impossibly heavy, like they were weighed down by something unseen. The world outside the window blurred into streaks of light, the speed of the car turning everything into a hazy mess.
Something wasn’t right,
I shifted, or at least I tried to, but a sharp pressure around my wrists stopped me. My heart kicked against my ribs as I glanced down, realizing my hands were bound. My breath caught in my throat.
The steering wheel was moving on its own.
Panic surged through me. I struggled against the restraints, but my body felt weak, sluggish, as if I had been drugged. I forced myself to focus, blinking against the dizziness. That was when a voice, smooth and laced with venom, poured through the car’s speakers. ‘Rise and shine, sleeping beauty.”
My blood ran cold
Miranda.
Her laughter crackled through the speakers, soft but taunting, like she was savoring every second of this. “I could’ve killed you, you know,” she mused, letting out a dramatic sigh. “But where’s the fun in that? Death is too easy. I want you to suffer, Valeria. I want you to feel pain.” The car lurched forward, accelerating without warning. The tires screeched against the asphalt, the force of it slamming me back into the seat. My breathing turned shallow as I fought against the restraints, twisting my wrists until the skin burned.
“Enjoy the ride, sweetheart,” Miranda’s voice purred through the speakers. “Let’s see if you survive this one.” The car jerked violently
The sound of screeching tires filled the air.!!
A crash–loud, deafening, all–consuming.
Then, nothing.
Four Years Later
The rhythmic beeping of machines was the first thing I registered. It was soft at first, distant, but with each passing second, it grew louder, cutting through the fog in my mind. Something felt off. My body was heavy, like I had been submerged underwater for far too long.S
I tried to move, but pain pulsed through my limbs, sharp and unforgiving. My head felt light, too light, as if it had been hollowed out and left empty. There was something I was supposed to remember, something–important but the harder I tried to grasp at it, the further it slipped away }
A voice, soft but urgent, broke through the haze. “Doctor! She’s waking up!
I forced my eyes open. |
The brightness of the room stung immediately, the stark white walls and sterile scent making it impossible to ignore where I was. A hospital. My throat tightened at the realization, panic rising before I could stop it.
I tried to sit up, but a sharp ache shot through my skull, forcing me back against the pillows. A nurse, dressed in pale blue scrubs, stepped forward, placing a gentle hand on my arm. “Easy,” she said, her voice calm, almost soothing. “You’ve been asleep for a long
time.7
I swallowed, my y throat dry and sore. “What… happened?” My voice came out hoarse, barely more than a whisper.
The nurse hesitated. It was brief, but I caught it–the slight flicker of hesitation in her eyes before she finally answered. “You were in a car accident. A bad one.”
A flash of something sharp and terrifying cut through my mind.
Fire Metal Screaming.
I winced, pressing my fingers to my temples as the images flickered like a broken film reel before vanishing altogether. My chest
tightened. Something was missing. A gap in my mind that I couldn’t fill, no matter how hard I tried
“Where where am I?
“You’re in a private hospital,” she said carefully. “You’ve been in a coma for four years.”
Four years
The words felt distant, like they belonged to someone else.
Four whole years, gone.
My fingers curled into the blanket beneath me, my breath coming out in short, uneven gasps. “And who am 17|||
This time, the hesitation was longer. The nurse’s expression shifted, her lips pressing together as she searched my face for something- recognition, maybe, or understanding. But I had nothing to give her.}
“You don’t remember?” she asked softly.
I shook my head, my heart hammering against my ribs.
I didn’t remember!
Not my name. Not my past. Not the accident.
Nothing.8
The door swung open before I could process the full weight of that realization. The sound of footsteps echoed through the room, slow and deliberate, until a figure came into view
A man.3
Tall. Broad shoulders. Sharp blue eyes that cut through the space between us like a blade.
He stopped at the edge of my bed, his gaze locked onto mine, unreadable, almost unnerving. There was something about him- something that made my chest tighten and my stomach churn, though I couldn’t place why.
He stared at me for a long moment, his expression carefully guarded, as if he was searching for something. Then, finally, he spoke “You’re finally awake.”
His voice sent a shiver down my y spine. There was familiarity in it, a distant echo of something I should know but couldn’t grasp. I held His gaze, hoping–praying–that something, anything, would click into place.R
“Who are you?” I asked, my voice barely above a whisper.
Something flickered across his face, too quick for me to catch. He didn’t answer immediately. Instead, his eyes swept over me, lingering as if he was trying to piece me back together, to find the version of me he had lost.
Then, with a voice steady and unwavering, he said,
“I’m… I’m your husband. Lorenzo.”
