Slap! A sharp slap echoed, leaving Katie’s palm tingling with numbness.
She stared at Ryan in disbelief, his presence now appearing unusually imposing.

Sally was stunned. The school doctor’s words cut like a knife.
She had no real intention of dying.
But since when did Katte share such a close connection with this sharp–tongued school doctor?
She felt increasingly uneasy, gripping the eyebrow razor tightly, unsure whether to release it or go through with her bluff.

Eddie glared at Ryan with intense hostility. “If you dare to take Katie away by force, I’ll call the police immediately and report you for abducting a minor”
Katie’s anger flared. “He’s not kidnapping me! I chose to leave on my own.”
She couldn’t bear to stay with the Maddisons any longer.
It was suffocating.
Eddie looked at her with a mix of frustration and concern. “Katie, I know you’re in a rebellious phase right now. No matter what I say, you won’t listen. But one day, you’ll realize I’m doing this for your own good.”
Ryan let out a mocking laugh. “For her good? Is that why every time there’s a disagreement, you force her to back down? Why do you let her endure the pain, take the hits, and expect her to understand? If this is what you call ‘good, why don’t you want it for yourselves instead?”
Eddie was at a loss for words.
At that moment, he realized how much he had failed her. She had always been so obedient and quiet, never voicing her feelings, and he had assumed she didn’t mind.
But she had remembered everything

Just then, the police arrived, accompanied by a lawyer.
The lawyer stepped forward and spoke firmly, “I am Ms. Katie Maddison’s legal representative. Due to repeated incidents of familial violence, we have submitted evidence to the authorities. She will now be escorted by the police to a place where she feels safe”
Katie was taken aback / hadn’t hired a lawyer, right?

Ryan’s gaze lowered to meet her, his eyes steady and composed. That calmness carried a sense of reassurance, easing the unease that had begun to settle in her heart.
Melvin, however, was furious. “What do you mean? We are her guardians, what gives you the right to do this?”
The lawyer intervened, “Sir, Katie has requested a personal safety order. You are now required to stay away from her for six months. If you do anything to harm her, you will face a lawsuit!”
Melvin was taken aback, speechless, and overwhelmed by both anger and guilt.
Eddie felt a deep sense of defeat.
At that moment, he truly understood that he might lose his sister.
He spoke quietly, “Katie, in the past, I wasn’t good enough and caused you pain. But I swear it won’t happen again. Can we avoid making a scene like this?”
Katie slowly raised her head, her gaze steady and sharp, “Let’s just forget it.”

Eddie gulped, his eyes softening, realizing that he had indeed hurt Katie deeply.

Sally hunched her shoulders, looking remorseful. “Melvin, I’m sorry. I acted without thinking and only resorted to this in desperation. I know I was wrong. I shouldn’t have done that. I’ll apologize to Katie and explain everything.”
Seeing her sincere apology, Melvin’s tone softened. “Alright, just don’t do something like this again.”
But as he thought of Katie walking away, a wave of sadness washed over him.
Sally quickly wiped her tears and smiled, returning to her usual sweet and cheerful demeanor.
But beneath the surface, she held a grudge against Katie.
If she could use self–harm today, she could have definitely won Melvin back and caused a rift between him and Katie.
It was all because of the sudden appearance of the school doctor!
Her eyes shifted, and she asked, “Eddie, what’s the relationship between Katie and that school doctor?”

“Eddie, I’m worried that Katie might be tricked. After all, our family is wealthy and influential. A simple school doctor might try to use her to get ahead.” Sally said.
