Chapter 9 I’m Not Being Stubborn
Katie stood tall. She knew that Sally’s father saved her life.
Because of this, when Rowan took Sally in, she didn’t protest and even treated Sally like a little sister.
But as time passed, she started to notice that Sally had slowly but surely stolen her brothers away.
That’s why her relationship with Sally had become so strained,

Eddie shouted angrily, “Katie, look at what you’re saying! We’re not asking for your life! We’re trying to get you to get along with Sally! Is that really so hard for you? How long are you going to keep being stubborn?”
“Tim not being stubborn.”
Hearing Eddie’s words, all the questions that had been weighing on Katie’s heart just moments ago vanished without a trace.
It all suddenly felt meaningless.
She had lost her temper and tried to explain herself before, but it hadn’t made any difference.
Now, she didn’t want to let her emotions be swayed by her brothers again, not like in the past.
She wouldn’t explain herself, and she wouldn’t care about their opinions anymore.
Katie silently gathered the textbooks from the coffee table, stuffing them into her bag.
Looking at the packed bag, she murmured, “If there’s nothing else, I’ll go to my room.”
Eddie sat on the couch, looking frustrated and troubled.
“Katie, if you agree to join the team now, we’ll forget everything that’s happened in the past!‘
When Katie heard those words, she couldn’t help but laugh.
Everything she’d done in her past life felt like nothing more than a joke.
Without looking back, Katie went upstairs, her steps firm and resolute.
Feeling agitated, Eddie lit a cigarette.
Bertram walked over. “Mr. Eddie, since Ms. Katie isn’t willing, just let her be. At least we still have Ms. Sally.”
Eddie furrowed his brows. “It’s not the same.” 1
“Mr. Eddie, there’s something I’m not sure if I should say, but I’ll say it anyway. You’ve all been gone for days, and when Ms. Katie came back, she never asked about you. She seems so cold, so heartless. Watching it makes me feel a chill.”
Eddie immediately snuffed out his cigarette and drove off from the villa.
Katie heard the sound of a car from upstairs and saw Eddie leaving, likely heading to the training camp.
She took a shower and then reviewed her wrong answers.
She was determined to get away from here.

Before she realized it, she had stayed up all night. As dawn broke, she hurriedly packed her bag, rushed downstairs, grabbed a sandwich from the kitchen, and quickly ran out the door.
Eddie was the first to come downstairs.
He watched Katie walk away, frowning. “She’s up this early?”
- Katie has been going out on her own and taking public transport these past few days, refusing to take the driver’s car. It all started on Monday when Ms. Sally was discussing something with you, which delayed a bit and made her late. After that,

Ms. Katie was angry and never took the driver’s car again.”
Eddie’s expression grew more conflicted.

Clifford walked over. “Is it really that serious? It was just a little late. Why be so petty? Who is she trying to impress?”
Melvin yawned. “Eddie. Katie’s just putting on a show to make you feel guilty. If you give in now, she’ll only get worse later!”
Eddie didn’t respond..
He also thought Katie needed to learn a lesson. He gave her chances, but she didn’t value them.
Sally overheard the conversation, a glimmer of amusement in her eyes, and skipped down the stairs, “Good morning, Eddie, Clifford, Melvin! Let’s have breakfast together”
Seeing Sally’s bright and energetic attitude. Eddie’s mood lifted.
At least this sister hadn’t gone down the wrong path.
After Katie arrived at school, she struggled to stay awake, having pulled an all–nighter.
Still, she remained focused during class, determined not to miss any crucial points.
During the lesson, the teacher suddenly called on Sally to answer a question, but she hesitated and stumbled, unable to come up with an answer
The teacher sighed. “Sally, you’ve been distracted lately. You haven’t mastered the material we’ve been reviewing, and you’ll struggle in the exam if you don’t catch up.”
Sally’s face flushed. Tm sorry. It won’t happen again.”
One of her followers quickly spoke up. “Katie has been really focused lately. She probably knows the answer.”
Everyone turned their attention to Katie, most of them waiting for a good laugh.
After all Katie’s grades were usually worse than Sally’s, so it was likely she wouldn’t be able to answer either.
Katie stood up and answered the question clearly
The teacher was surprised. “Correct! Katie has been working hard lately. Everyone should follow her example and stay
focused
Sally stole a glance at Katie, her heart burning with resentment. If it hadn’t been for her time wasted on the game, she would have been able to answer.
Instead, Katie stole the spotlight, and it infuriated her.
It seemed like she would have to catch up, no matter what
After being praised, Katie felt much better.
After school, she decided not to go to the infirmary and went straight back to the Maddison Residence instead.
She had to be careful not to draw any attention from Eddie, so she needed to stay cautious.
Sure enough, when she returned, Bertram kept a close watch on her, which made her feel uneasy.
Once dinner was over, Katie headed to her room. After locking the door behind her, she finally felt a sense of relief.
She took out her phone while doing her homework.
She was unsure whether she should message Ryan, especially since she didn’t go today.

Katie stared at her phone, feeling a bit troubled.
Maybe she should send it later?

Katie put down her phone and continued doing her homework. Before long, her eyelids started to get heavy, probably because she had stayed up all night yesterday.
She leaned on the desk, planning to take a quick nap, but before she knew it, she had fallen asleep.
The next morning, Katie was woken up by the alarm clock.
She glanced at the time, surprised it was already morning.
Katie gathered her things, hurried downstairs, and rushed off to school.
At lunchtime, she hesitated for a moment before heading to the infirmary.
However, she didn’t see Ryan. Summoning her courage, she asked the doctor inside, “Where’s Dr. Ashford?”
Dr. Ashford went to lunch”
Katie nodded and decided to come back after school to find him.
After school that afternoon, Katie went to the infirmary again, but still didn’t see Ryan. The same doctor from earlier was there.
The doctor looked at her and said, “Little girl, I’m on duty today. Focus on your studies and don’t worry about these things, it’s still too early for you”
Katie turned bright red, but she didn’t explain herself,
In the following days, she secretly went to the infirmary but still didn’t see Ryan.
For a while, she felt a bit down, probably because she had gotten used to him being there waiting for her.
Katie realized she had started to depend on Ryan.
She quickly pulled herself together, telling herself that she couldn’t rely on anyone. She had to stand on her own for the rest
of her life.
She focused and dedicated herself entirely to preparing for the upcoming monthly exam.
She couldn’t lose!
Once the exam was over, Katie felt confident that she had done well
She thought she should make it into the top 100.
However, everyone else was grumbling, saying that the exam questions were quite tough.
She took out her phone and opened her chat with Ryan, but in the end, she wasn’t sure what to say.
It seemed like they weren’t really that close.
Katie struggled with her social relationships and, feeling frustrated, turned off her phone.
She happily packed her bag and went home. When she entered the living room, it was lively. Her brothers were all there, and they didn’t go to the training camp.
As soon as she appeared, the room became quieter.
It felt as though she was the uninvited guest, disturbing the happiness of her brothers and Sally.
