Melody’s POV
Damon quickly chimed in, eager to back up the lie. “Yes, yes, exactly. This is all just a misunderstanding. We weren’t trying to hurt hero anything. We were just trying to take her away. She took off her clothes on her own! She’s framing Karrie on purpose.“}]
“That’s right,” Alvin added. “We have proof. Sir, Karrie is a good girl. But this Melody? She’s nothing like her. You didn’t see how arrogant she was earlier. She said I wasn’t her real father and even cursed at me. I lost my temper and gave her a small slap, and she completely lost it and started acting crazy and causing a scene. A girl like that deserves to be hit.“}
Then Alvin paused as if an idea struck him. “Of course, none of this has anything to do with you, Mr. Hutchinson. It’s all on me. Melody is my daughter. This is my fault. She’s clearly inherited her mother’s bad blood.”
“You see,” he continued, “back then, that awful woman secretly swapped the kids, replacing our sweet Karrie with this brat Melody. That’s why Karrie suffered so much over the years. Honestly, she deserved what she got.”
As he spoke, he had the nerve to start walking toward me and my dad.
“Mr. Hutchinson,” he said, putting on a show of sincerity, “let me take Melody back and teach her a proper lesson. You and Karrie can finally reconnect without all this drama-“N
But at that time, my dad had finally pieced together what had happened. His expression shifted into something chilling, and he let out a cold, mirthless laugh. “Wow… just wow.“N
Seeing my dad smile, the three of them, Karrie, Alvin, and Damon, actually relaxed. Karrie even switched back to her sweet, innocent act, beaming through her fake tears.N
“Dad, I’ve missed you so much,” she said dramatically.
But they completely misunderstood.N
My dad wasn’t smiling because he was happy. Anyone who had been in business as long as he had learned how to keep their emotions off their face. That cold smile of his? I’d only seen it once in my life, and it was years ago when I was in middle school.
One of our drivers had fallen into gambling debt. Desperate for money, he decided to “borrow” some from my dad by kidnapping me and demanding a fifteen–million–dollar ransom.
Without hesitation, my dad transferred the money.
But that driver got greedy. The payout had come so easily that he decided it wasn’t enough. He upped the stakes and said in a video call to my dad, “Mr. Hutchinson, I’ve been thinking a hundred million isn’t enough. Your daughter’s beautiful, and I’ve spent a lot of time with her lately. We’re actually really close. So instead of asking for more money, I’ve got a better idea. I’ll just marry her. Once we’re family, hand over your company to me, and we’ll all be happy. What do you think?”
My dad smiled, just like he was smiling now.
“Great,” he said calmly. “Really great.“N
The driver thought he’d won.
But my dad somehow tracked us down within hours. Like some kind of avenging storm, he appeared out of nowhere and pulled me out of that hell.
Seeing the fury in his eyes that day, I cried and begged him not to kill anyone, for my sake.}
Reluctantly, he agreed. He handed the man over to the authorities. But even after being locked up, the driver died mysteriously in prison not long after.
Karrie was about to say something else when the family doctor arrived, cutting her off.”
Seeing the doctor walking toward me to check my injuries, Karrie quickly stepped in front of him and barked, “Get out! You’re our family doctor. You don’t treat trash like her.”
Alvin jumped in to support her. “That’s right! My daughter’s life isn’t worth saving. After everything she’s done, the best thing she could do is die and save us all the trouble.”
