When I got out of the car, I recognized the
place.
It was our old favorite restaurant.
Inside the familiar booth, the food was
already waiting.
He piled my plate high.
Then pushed it towards me.
He met my confused gaze.
“Mrs. Sinclair, you need to put on some
weight.”
<
He couldn’t say anything nice, could he?
I glared at him, but I still picked up my
chopsticks and ate.
We rarely had moments of peace like this.
I didn’t want to ruin it.
Unfortunately, I didn’t have much of an
appetite.
I only took a few bites before putting down my chopsticks.
Cooper frowned. “You’re not going to eat anymore?”
“I’m full.”
く
I shook my head.
He studied me. “You don’t look so good.”
He leaned closer.
I pulled away. “I told you, l…”
Before I could finish, he laughed. “You’re
going to tell me you’re sick again, aren’t
you?”
He leaned back, stretching his long legs out
on the bench.
“You’re going to make me believe it.”
His dismissive attitude stung.
Г
My eyes burned.
Cooper went silent, not arguing with me.
Willow’s words flashed in my mind.
“He’ll be sad without you.”
I stole a glance at Cooper. His face was dark,
unreadable.
I hesitated, then decided to take the initiative.
Maybe I should talk to him.
“Actually, I…”
A ringtone cut me off.
<
Cooper glanced at me and answered. “What
is it?”
“Cooper, aren’t you supposed to be having
dinner with me? I’m already at the restaurant.
Where are you?”
Janie’s spoiled voice filled my ears.
I smirked, disgusted.
Of course.
This dinner was stolen time.
Cooper tapped the back of his phone, lost in
thought.
My stomach churned. I pressed my hand
Г
Even when he was being sweet to Janie, he
still had that rebellious tone.
Janie sounded angry.
Cooper wasn’t bothered. After a long pause,
he said, “What a firecracker.”
I looked up and met his shocked gaze. I
quickly looked down.
My face flushed.
I didn’t realize he was talking about me.
I used to be so spoiled, always throwing
tantrums.
Cooper used to tease me, calling me a
It always made me even angrier, and I’d
ignore him for days.
In the end, he’d have to beg for my
forgiveness.
I almost thought he was making fun of me…
I tried to smile to break the tension.
Suddenly, I felt a wave of nausea.
I jumped up and ran to the bathroom.
I threw up everything I had eaten.
When I came out, I saw Cooper’s dark face.
I knew he misunderstood.
Г
But this time, before I could say anything, he
turned and slammed the door.
Leaving me alone.
Outside, it was pouring rain.
I blinked, trying to clear my eyes.
I stood helplessly under the shelter.
Luckily, the owner remembered me.
He helped me find a taxi to take me back to
the city.
