Chapter 28 The Last Goodbye
Iliana did not wait for Bryson to finish talking; she immediately hung up the phone.
The waiter, noticing her set down the phone, quickly came to Iliana, his eyes showing sympathy and kindness.
“Excuse me, when do you think your guest will arrive? It’s a busy hour now, and many people are waiting outside. If you can…”
At the entrance, couples had already begun to take numbers to wait for a table.
Iliana had been at the table for almost two hours, which seemed unfair.
Feeling tired, Iliana stood up, apologized to the waiter, paid the bill, and then left, moving sluggishly.
Without realizing it, she ended up at the Whiteville riverbank.
The night breeze made her shoulders chilly, and she looked down, firmly removing her bracelet.
Even for the last goodbye, Bryson still chose Bryanna.
She had never won.
Iliana raised her hand and threw the bracelet into the river.
The wooden beads sank without causing much disturbance, just like her relationship with Bryson.
Iliana bowed her head, thinking she could have had a perfect ending,

but it turned out this way.
The start was not good, so how could the end be any better?
Iliana kept walking, her figure fading into the night, the streetlight casting a long shadow behind her.
The night was very cold, so she entered a small hotel.
Thinking about leaving the place she had lived in for three years, Iliana
felt a bit worried, her mind was filled with thoughts, and she
unintentionally drank a few extra glasses.
From tomorrow, she would leave Whiteville to begin a new life.
This time, she would live for herself.
When Iliana noticed, she had already drunk three martinis and was completely intoxicated.
Iliana picked up her phone and opened the contact list, instinctively wanting to call Bryson.
But seeing the word “Blocked,” she became slightly more sober.
It didn’t matter.
She would ask her kind neighbor.
Iliana called Maurice, gave a random address, and then fell asleep on
the table.
About ten minutes later, Maurice arrived at the bar, looking worried.
He looked around and went directly to Iliana.
Maurice looked down at her.

Her cheeks were red, and her usually cold features now appeared very attractive.
Her eyelashes were long, and she was sleeping peacefully on the table.
Maurice frowned, holding her wrist with one hand and gently lifting her face with the other.
“Wake up, let’s go home.”
He felt her hot temperature in his palm, barely able to support her.
Her body was soft; she moaned, half–opening her eyes, her gaze landing on Maurice’s face.
Her eyes were blurry, unclearly examining Maurice from head to toe.
Seeing Maurice’s slightly furrowed brows, Iliana smiled.
She put her hands around Maurice’s neck and leaned back. “Mr. Andrade, what a coincidence.”
Coincidence?
Maurice looked at her drunken state, his lips tightly closed.
He lifted her horizontally into his arms and walked steadily out of the
bar.
The alcohol and faint scent from Iliana seeped into Maurice’s breath.
He glanced at her, seeing her crying and chuckling, her pink lips murmuring something.
Maurice bent his head slightly, getting closer.
“Mr. Andrade, you are so good.”

Maurice listened to her murmuring, a deep meaning showing in his
eyes.
A breeze blew by, and Iliana shivered, burrowing into Maurice’s embrace, then chuckled, “Mr. Andrade, your embrace is really warm.”
Warm?
Maurice made a soft snort.
His tone was flat, “If you stop being with heartless people, you’ll find the whole world is warm.”
Iliana was drunk; she couldn’t understand anything, only clinging tightly to Maurice, pressing close to his chest.
Maurice carried her to the car, fastened her seatbelt, and as he started the engine, a hand suddenly reached out.
Iliana turned her head, her face red and pretty.
She pulled at Maurice’s shirt, her voice a little hoarse. “Mr. Andrade, drive slowly, we’re not in a hurry to get home.”
If the car went too fast, she would vomit.
Maurice looked at Iliana’s hand, which kept pulling at his shirt and didn’t let go.
He didn’t say anything, just quietly drove very slowly.
After getting out, Maurice still held Iliana in his arms, and she leaned against him, sleeping deeply.
It was almost six o’clock in the morning now, and an elderly lady went out for her morning exercise, seeing them in the elevator.

The elderly lady looked at them, her eyes showing she was happy for them.
“I’ve seen you often coming and going together, so I knew you would be together.”
Maurice pressed his lips together and just nodded, not saying much.
At the door, Maurice took out the key from Iliana’s bag and opened her apartment door.
He put Iliana down, but she held onto his neck, not letting go.
“Let go, you need to rest.”
Hearing this, Iliana tried to open her eyes.
She had cried earlier, and her eyes were red, making her look fragile.
Maurice’s heart felt soft.
He said, “I’m a man; you cling to me like this, aren’t you afraid of what I might do?”
Because of the alcohol, Iliana didn’t understand.
But she had only one thought now, to keep this person with her.
“Stay with me.”
She acted in a childlike manner, attractive and cute.
Maurice watched her, his eyes showing mixed feelings.
He slowly breathed out, his voice having a trace of obsession and seriousness, “Iliana, look carefully, who am I?”

Iliana followed his request, her eyes opening wider and blinking twice.
She pulled him down.
Maurice’s feet wobbled a bit, and he almost unintentionally fell onto the bed with Iliana, nearly squashing her.
Their faces were very close, their breaths nearly mixing. Iliana carefully followed the outline of Maurice’s face with her fingers.
After some time, she slightly smiled, lifted her head a bit, and confidently replied, “You are Maurice.”
Maurice’s bright eyes narrowed a little. His fingertips touched Iliana’s hair, moving the strands away from her ear.
She leaned her head, resting it on his hand, and went back to sleep.
Maurice’s voice had a hint of flirtation as he softly murmured, “Since you’ve made the request, then I’ll stay with you.”
