Victoria bit her lip, her eyes full of longing.
Nonetheless, Raymond held her back, whispering harshly, “Stop this nonsense. We don’t have the money!”
“Huh, no money? What a shame that you can’t even afford 80 dollars!”
I deliberately raised my voice so that customers nearby could hear.
Victoria’s face altemated between red and pale. She was so embarrassed she wished the ground would swallow her.
Raymond also felt humiliated and pulled Victoria away.
I then turned to assist other customers.
Meanwhile, Raymond watched me with a complicated expression.
The next few days passed peacefully before Raymond showed up at the stall again. He stood in front, fidgeting nervously.
I was busy packing clothes for a customer and asked him irritably, “What do you want? Don’t disturb my business if you have nothing important to say.”
He fixed his gaze on me, his expression complex. The way he looked gave me goosebumps.
“You’ve changed a lot.”
He was seeing a vibrant, beautiful Minnie for the first time. I knew I seemed distant yet captivating.
I laughed ouldly. “Thanks to you, I’m doing very well now. Unlike some people who are struggling to make ends meet, unable to afford even a simple dress,”
He was taken aback, his expression turning ugly. He probably had not expected me to speak so bluntly and mercilessly. After all, I had always been submissive and accommodating around him in the past.
I continued arranging clothes without looking up and said, “Get lost! If you keep hanging around, I’ll have someone beat you up!”
Raymond stood frozen like a wooden post but eventually left reluctantly.
I thought that would be the end of it. But unexpectedly, Raymond would appear at the stall every few days. Sometimes, he would bring over cheap jewelry, and other times, he would bring greasy snacks.
I could not even be bothered ip look up. I tossed his offerings directly into the trash.
“Minnie, what are you doing? I’m just trying to be nice…”
I looked at him coldly, my tone full of contempt. “Raymond, aren’t you disgusted with yourself?”
