Chapter 92
Chapter 92
Cheryl? Why are you back?” Lillian got goosebumps just seeing her, recalling Cheryl’s legendary deeds.
Cheryl walked in, tossed the cookies onto the bedside floor, clapped her hands, and said, “If I didn’t come back, my daughter would’ve been bullied to death by your family!” –
She walked right up and suddenly grabbed Lillian by the collar, scaring Lillian into a scream. “Don’t do anything crazy… ah!”
“Your old man owes his life to my husband! And this is how you repay us? You look down on my daughter, knows how to play both slut and saint!”
“It’s a misunderstanding, really! That time was an accident!” Wyatt jumped in to smooth things

Cheryl spat at him. “Last night, he was still sleeping in the same room as we’re just your circus monkeys? Your whole family’s shameless!”
Lillian and Wyatt both stared at Clayton, stunned.

getting the marriage license today. So what, now
They thought, ‘What on earth is going on? Did they sleep together again? Last time was because of the alcohol… but what about last night? Is he hooked now? Or–was bringing Valerie back just an excuse to start things up again?‘
“Speak. Tell them yourself. What did you promise me yesterday?” Cheryl glared at Clayton, tightening her grip. Lillian’s face was turning blue.
Clayton lowered his eyes, clenched his fists, and said nothing.
Cheryl spoke for him, “You said, half the amount now, the rest after the banquet. Did I hear that wrong?”
Clayton’s silence was basically agreement.
Wyatt fully agreed with his wife now–Valerie was crazy, and Clayton was a fool. Messing around with two manipulative, vicious women.
He suddenly slapped Clayton. Either to wake him up or to cut ties. Their father was already ruined by him–Clayton was now the Patel family’s only hope. He couldn’t afford to be this dumb.

Clayton was stunned, his head tilted. It took him a while to look at his brother. His brother actually hit him.
When he went against their father’s wishes and changed his college plans, when he insisted on marrying Audrey against the whole family, his brother had only ever talked to him patiently. But now that it involved Valerie, his brother actually hit him.
But bunch
Cheryl screamed and lunged at Wyatt, punching and kicking. “What gives you the right to hit my son–in–law?”
Carson walked in just in time to see the chaos. Wyatt hitting Clayton, Cheryl hitting Wyatt, and Lillian yanking Cheryl’s hair. He quickly called a nurse to break it up and calm everyone down.
Clayton sat in Carson’s office, his cheek swollen, lip split, looking completely defeated like a wilted eggplant.
“How’s your hand? Want to get an X–ray?” Carson asked, a bit sarcastically. He thought Clayton totally had it coming.
Of course, Clayton picked up on the sarcasm. He gave a bitter smile and held up his injured finger. “Audrey broke it.”
Carson actually spat out his water. He thought he got hurt during the fight. “Sorry…” he said, but he was clearly trying not to laugh..
He turned toward the window, looking at a cremation transport van. Thinking about the patients who had just passed away and the grieving families, he finally stopped laughing.

Once he controlled his expression, he looked back at Clayton. “Alright. Just take good care of Ms. Patterson. When you two get married, don’t forget my

Clayton stared at him, his eyes dark,
Carson didn’t look back–he was still trying not to laugh.
Music started playing in the lounge. Carson pulled out his phone. He glanced at Clayton and answered the call.
“Hey, I called you yesterday, but you didn’t pick up. Then I got caught in an emergency, didn’t hear back from you either.” Carson’s gentle tone immediately caught Clayton’s attention.
Carson took a few steps away, but the room wasn’t that big. The moment the voice on the other end spoke, Clayton stood up.
“I was busy yesterday.” Audrey’s car had just pulled into the basement, and the signal was bad. Carson’s earlier call had broken up, so she said she’d call back once she was back in the office.
“Audrey!” Clayton rushed over. “Let me talk to her-”
“Huh? What? Can’t hear you–no signal again!” Carson dodged Clayton’s hand, turned around, and hung up. “See what I mean?”
Clayton’s face darkened so much it looked like it could drip ink. He knew Carson had done it on purpose. Holding back his anger, he said coldly, “You two aren’t right for each other.”
“What are you talking about? Audrey’s my benefactor. Whether she’s a beggar or not doesn’t matter–she helped me, and that’s a debt I’ll never forget!”
Clayton sneered, “Don’t pretend–your feelings are crystal clear!”
Carson got angry. “Say that again, and I won’t treat you like a brother anymore.”
Everything Clayton once said to Carson was now being thrown back in his face. He was speechless, his chest aching.
Clayton took deep breaths, again and again. Carson hadn’t done anything concrete yet, so he couldn’t cut him off. “Let me use your phone.”
Carson didn’t want to, but figured refusing would make him look guilty. He reluctantly unlocked it and handed it over. “Her signal’s bad, though.”
Clayton saw all the recent calls, and his face turned dark. He took a deep breath and dialed. The call connected quickly, and a gentle female voice answered, “Go ahead.”
“Audrey, it’s me…” Clayton said.
The call was suddenly ended.
“Damn it!” Clayton couldn’t hold it in anymore.
Carson snatched his phone back. “I have something important to say to her, don’t mess it up-”
He quickly dialed again to explain it wasn’t intentional. But it was busy the whole time. “Look! She blocked me, too! Are you happy now?”
Clayton slammed a fist on the desk. His recently reset finger got dislocated again. He let out a low grunt, breaking into a cold sweat.
On the other side, after blocking Carson, Audrey just kept working.
Edana kept finding excuses to linger near Audrey, clearly trying to figure out how she managed to wrap everything up so fast.
She didn’t ask, so Audrey naturally wouldn’t say anything. Even if she asked, Audrey still wouldn’t say.
“Tiffany.” Audrey looked at Tiffany. “These documents were prepared by you earlier. Check again if the policies have changed. If everything’s fine, I’ll hand them to Mr. Gibson.”

Okay Tiffany came over to take the files, but Edana accidentally bumped into her, causing her to fall back into her chair.
Sorry I didn’t mean to,” Edana said as she reached out to Audrey for the documents, acting like she was helping pass them over.
Audrey simply put the files on Tiffany’s desk and smiled, “Good thing it was just a twisted ankle. If it were your hand, you wouldn’t be able to work.”
Tiffany smiled knowingly.
Edana felt like she’d just been slapped. “Audrey, I didn’t think you were that sneaky!”
“Edana, I just said it casually, why take it so personally?”
Edana was left speechless.
She went to Paul’s office, and after coming out, walked over to Tiffany’s desk, but her gaze was fixed on Audrey. “Audrey, Mr. Gibson said this project will be handled by both of us.”
