Chapter 16 I’ll Break His Legs
Around eight o’clock in the evening, Synthia finally got through to Nicole
Nicole’s phone had been off for days. It wasn’t the first time, so Synthia hadn’t thought much of it.
“Synthy. I’m back.” Nicole said, trying to sound calm, “I was up in the mountains selecting products. There was no signal. I called you the moment I landed. Are you at the hospital? I’ll come pick you up, and let’s have dinner together.”
Nicole had been hiding out, seeing no one, ignoring work.
“Sure,” Synthia agreed right away. “I’m at the hospital, but you don’t have to pick me up. Just send me the address. I’ll take a taxi.”
She figured Nicole must be tired from traveling. There was no need to make her come all the way over.
“Alright. I’ve been craving that diner near our old college,” Nicole said. “Oh, I heard someone donated a new building to the school. Let’s go
check it out.”
“Okay, whatever you say.”
Nicole mattered to her.
Wherever Nicole wanted to go, Synthia would go with her.
After finishing up work, Synthia grabbed her phone to head out. Only then did she notice a missed call.

It was from Darion.
She sneered and blocked his number.
She hesitated and called Kyra instead.
The call was quickly picked up.
“Kyra, Coco’s back,” Synthia said as she walked out, “I’m still uneasy about last time. Can you arrange a couple of people to keep an eye on her? Let me know right away if anything happens.”
“Got it. Don’t worry,” Kyra replied, “I’ll assign someone to follow her.”
Kyra knew who Nicole was.
Synthia didn’t have many close friends, and Nicole was one of the few. So Kyra had always kept an eye on her.
“By the way, is Wilson still busy?” Synthia asked. “He’s been totally off the radar. I’m worried it’s not safe where he is.”
She was pretty annoyed about it.
Wilson had gone overseas for work before, sometimes for over a year. But they never completely lost contact.
“Yeah.” Kyra rubbed her temples. “He’s working on a sensitive project. this time. It’s fully confidential. But don’t worry. Wilson is always cautious. He’ll be fine.”
Kyra’s words calmed Synthia a bit, so she dropped the topic.
After the call, Kyra looked up at the man across from her and spread her hands. “Did you hear all that?”
The man was Wilson.
Wilson was back in the country but hadn’t contacted Synthia.
“Yeah.” Wilson said quietly, eyes dark, “Don’t tell her yet.”
Kyra took a sip of coffee and said casually, “Aren’t you afraid you’re playing with fire? You know Synthy hates being lied to. If she finds
out…”
Kyra hadn’t even finished when Wilson shot her a sharp look.
“Alright, alright!” Kyra raised her hands in surrender. “I won’t say a word. But Wilson, I’ve been avoiding Synthy for your sake. You have
the land of C2 in
to pay me back, right? How about helping me . Our sake. You have
West District?”
Wilson snorted. “You’ve got nerve. That land belongs to the Lutz family. The owner of the Lutz family is handing it to his heir as a launchpad.”
Kyra was aware of that.
She lit a cigarette. With smoke swirling, she said, “Exactly. That’s why I have to get it.”
Darion was in the CEO’s office in the headquarters of DR Group.
He kept glancing at his personal phone.
It had been half an hour.
Synthia hadn’t called back yet.
Was she still busy?

After the meeting, Darion returned to the office. It was past work hours, but he didn’t leave. No one else in the CEO’s office dared to
either.
Eugene came over to ask, “Mr. Raymond, do you still need anything?
He didn’t.
DR Group was running smoothly. Due to Cynthea’s surgery, he had cleared his schedule.
“I’m going to the hospital.” Darion sat on the couch, staring at his phone.
Synthia’s number was still on the screen.
She didn’t call back.
“Huh?” Eugene blinked, then cautiously asked, “Mr. Raymond, should I check if Dr. Duffy has time to go with you to see Ms. Cynthea?”
Darion shot him a look. “Do you think I can’t go without her?”
“No, of course not,” Eugene said seriously, “It’s just… Dr. Duffy is Ms. Cynthea’s attending doctor and knows her condition best. I’m just thinking of her health.”
Darion paused and then said, “Fine. Send a car. I don’t want anyone saying the Raymond family lacks manners.”
He was hiding his desire to see Synthia himself.
“Okay, but I don’t have my work phone with me,” Eugene said, “I’ll go. fetch it and contact Dr. Duffy right away.”
Eugene had two phones and usually used his work phone at work.

“No need.” Darion shook his head coolly. “Just use your personal phone. Call her here.”
Eugene didn’t think too much of it. He dialed Synthia’s number.
She picked up the call after a few seconds.
Really?
Darion glanced at his phone again. She wasn’t busy. She just didn’t want to call back.
“Sorry, Dr. Duffy.” Eugene felt a chill from Darion’s glare and quickly turned on the speaker. “I’m heading to the hospital to check on Ms. Cynthea. Since you’re her doctor, I’d like to invite you to come along.”
“I’m busy now,” Synthia replied, “The surgery went fine. She’s still in ICU. There’s nothing I can do right now.”
She was about to hang up when Darion’s annoyed voice cut in.
“Dr. Duffy, you’re out partying while your patient is in ICU. Is that how you do your job?”
Synthia was stunned.
This damn jerk again!
Couldn’t he just disappear from her life?
“Mr. Raymond, I really don’t need your suggestion on how I do my job,” Synthia snapped, “And for the record, I’m your sweetheart’s doctor, not your nanny.”
She hung up and blocked Eugene’s number.
Frustrated, Synthia chugged a whole can of soda and crushed it with one hand.
“Damn Jerk! Total trash!” Synthia yelled. “If I ever see him again. I’ll break his legs!”
Nicole grinned and looked at her. “Babe, that’s a weird threat. Break his legs? Come on, be honest. Are you seeing some pretty boy?”
