Chapter 9 Finish Them
After saying this, Darion strode away.
He called Eugene after getting into his car. “Look into Dr. Duffy’s whereabouts during the past few years. Don’t miss out on any details- especially her time in Southdale.”
Eugene responded immediately, “Alright, Mr. Raymond. I’m on it.”
After hanging up, Darion sat in the driver’s seat. Suddenly, Joslyn’s words echoed in his mind.
He cared about Synthia way too much. Was it simply because of the surgery?
Of course, it was.
Purchase completed
Instead of dwelling on it, he hit the gas, and the car sped off.

At Stratexon Hospital.
Synthia focused on work after arriving at the hospital. After a brief onboarding ceremony, since there were no surgeries scheduled for the day, she called over her intern assistant and asked for all the Neurosurgery Department’s case files.
Now that she was a doctor here, she should start by knowing the patients here.
She focused on reviewing the files intently till she received a call from

Kyra.
She answered.
“Synthy, I’ve found something.” Standing in front of the huge floor–to- ceiling window, Kyra gazed at the building across the street, her gaze unfocused. “Someone paid the two punks to ruin Ms. Sweeney.”
She was referring to the punks at Kilig Bar last night.
Synthia’s expression turned cold at once.
“Ruin?” A cold glint flashed across her eyes as she clenched her fingers.
“That’s right. They wanna rape her and then use it to blackmail her.” Kyra squinted. “Their tactic is despicable, but it might have worked.
Also…”
“Yes, Kyra?”
“There weren’t only two people there. In fact, there were three. The third person was in charge of recording the whole thing.” Kyra lit a cigarette, the golden logo of the oppositè building reflected in her deep eyes. Then she continued, “If they had gotten their way, the recording would have been their leverage. Ms. Sweeney is a public figure, and she wouldn’t have been able to stand the consequences.”
Across the street, the characters “the Lutz Group” on the building gleamed brightly.
Kyra turned around. “What do you wanna do?”
By asking this, she meant, “How do you want me to finish them?”
Kyra was never a merciful person.

And neither was Synthia.
After thinking about it, Synthia said, “Don’t do anything just yet.”
“You’re gonna let them walk away?” A bit surprised. Kyra flicked the ash into the ashtray. “This is so unlike you. Did those three years of secret marriage make you soft?”
“Of course not, Kyra.” Synthia smiled. “Why would I let them walk away? I just think being charged with attempted rape is too easy for them. They’ll be released soon.”
Those two–no, three jerks almost ruined an innocent woman’s life.
Synthia wouldn’t have sat around while doing nothing even if they had targeted a stranger.
Not to mention their target was Nicole.
Kyra smiled.
Her smile was tinged with fondness, admiration, madness, as well as satisfaction. “Alright. I know what to do. Stay out of it and leave things like this to me as always.”
After a moment of silence, Synthia said, “OK. Thanks, Kyra. I’ll treat you to a meal when you’re free.”
She thanked Kyra because Kyra had shouldered too much for her.
Though she knew thanking Kyra wouldn’t repay Kyra’s kindness, she still felt she should say it.
Kyra smiled, “No worries. I’ve been caught up with a tricky project and have been so busy. I’ll reach out to you after I deal with the project.”
Kyra was in charge of multiple companies and had always been swamped.
But she had never said no to Synthia. Instead, she always prioritized Synthia’s matters.
“Sure.” Synthia smiled. “Kyra, are you sure I don’t stand a chance to be with you? I’ll be a perfect partner, you know. Unlike those jerks, I’ll be so nice to you.
Kyra chuckled, and they chatted for a while. Since Kyra had an
upcoming meeting, she hung up. Before that. Synthia asked her for the punks‘ testimonial records.
After receiving the files, she opened them and checked them.
To her surprise, she saw Joslyn’s name.
Joslyn?
For some reason, she felt she had heard the name before.
All of a sudden, the video Nicole had sent her yesterday flashed across her mind. Vantedge Capital, DR Group’s newest subsidiary, had signed with the top live streamer. She vaguely remembered that the streamer’s name was Joslyn, too.
She dug out the video.
Indeed it was–Joslyn Aguirre, the streamer, had just officially signed with Vantedge Capital. She had just seen Joslyn this morning at the Raymond Hospital.
Staring at the photo, Synthia pulled out a wry smile.
Just her luck.

She wondered why Joslyn had targeted Nicole.
So, she immediately called Nicole.
It rang a few times before Nicole finally answered. She said, sounding weary, “Babe, I’m dealing with something urgent in the company right now. If you’ve something important to say… Can you make it quick?”
“Coco, you sound off,” Synthia noticed something and immediately said. “Something wrong?”
“No.” Nicole’s tone steadied but stayed hushed. “I have to attend an important meeting soon. That’s all. I only have five minutes.”
Hearing this, Synthia quickly walked her through the things she had found out about Joslyn.
But she left the part that it was Darion who saved them.
Frowning, Nicole said, “I don’t know why Joslyn targeted me, but I’ll keep an eye out. Sorry that I almost dragged you into it last night, babe.”
Nicole felt very guilty.
She only had a handful of friends who she trusted and would do anything for, and Synthia was one of them.
She had been careless last night and shouldn’t have drunk that much- she missed the most important call and put Synthia in a dangerous spot.
“You don’t have to apologize to me at all. You were the victim here,” Synthia said. “I just wanna remind you to keep an eye on Joslyn and Vantedge Capital. Don’t go out alone at night these days.”
“OK. I hear you, babe.”
“Maybe I should move in with you for a while.” Synthia figured it’d be safer for Nicole.
She wasn’t afraid of Joslyn.
But Darion had Joslyn’s back. Though she didn’t know what Joslyn was up to, she’d never put Nicole at risk.
“That won’t be necessary, babe.” Nicole took a deep breath and tried her best to sound normal. “I’m about to go out of town to inspect a few factories soon. You know I’ve been planning on signing with a couple of brands, right? Let’s talk about this after I get back.”
Nicole’s lips were trembling.
Factory inspection and product selection were common for livestream companies, so Synthia didn’t suspect anything..
“Alright. Stay safe out there.”
She reminded Nicole to stay wary before hanging up.
Nicole clutched her phone so tightly that her knuckles turned pale. After a while, shrill commotion rang out from outside, which snapped her out of it. She looked over expressionlessly.
Two groups of people were fighting.
She knew them but didn’t do anything to stop them. Instead, she turned around to look at a photo, suppressing her emotions.
The woman in the photo was smiling.
It was as if she was mocking or amused by the farce.

“Mom…” Nicole lowered her head, muttering. “Maybe you made the right choice. Now that you’re dead, you’re relieved for good…”
The police called her a few hours ago.
Her mother jumped off a building and topped herself.
The reason was pretty simple–her father had cheated on her mother and brought his mistress home while her mother was away on a business trip. But she came back earlier and walked in on them. She couldn’t take the shock and killed herself.
Nicole took a deep breath and looked up at the cloudy sky.
She no longer had a mother.
