Chapter 7 Are You Playing Me?
Joslyn dressed up charmingly and even put on a pair of white lace. gloves to accentuate her beauty. Coupled with her bright red high heels, she looked triumphant and flamboyant. She let go of the wheelchair and walked toward Darion.
Just then, the woman in the wheelchair let out muffled whimpers as if
terrified.
Joslyn bent down and smiled at her, saying gently, “You’re not
behaving again. Didn’t I tell you already? You gotta be good. Only then. will Dary like you.”
Hearing her words, the woman lowered her head and fell silent, looking aggrieved.
“Whitney, take her inside,” Darion said to the maid.
Whitney quickly did as she was told.
“Dary, is this Dr. Duffy?” Joslyn noticed Synthia the second she walked out. She smiled at Synthia, “I’m so sorry, Dr. Duffy. She suffered a head injury before and has some intellectual disabilities. Dr. Duffy, you’re so young, and I’m sure you find people like her a waste of time. But surely, you won’t look down on her, right?”
Intellectual disabilities?
Synthia knew it the second she saw the woman in the wheelchair, and she realized it was why Darion hadn’t agreed to let her meet the woman at first yesterday.
Chapter 24in You Play
To her, patients‘ intelligence didn’t matter at all.
She respected each of them and only cared about their condition. It wast the minimum professional ethics she was supposed to uphold as a
doctor.
“What’s your problem?” she smiled, her smile flawless.
Joslyn was stunned. “What? You… Dr. Duffy, did you get me wrong on something? Dary, don’t blame Dr. Duffy. I was worried that Dr. Duffy might look down on her, so I… I’m sorry, Dr. Duffy. I really am…”
She even started to shed tears as she spoke.
Synthia couldn’t help but applaud.
Joslyn’s sobs paused for a second before she looked at Synthia and bit her lip. “Dr. Duffy, I’ve already apologized to you. W–Why wouldn’t you…”
“Oh?” Synthia interrupted her. “Did I ask you to apologize to me? I didn’t think so. Before anything, you told me first that the patient has intellectual disabilities. But I wouldn’t have known anything about it at all if you hadn’t told me. Let’s be real here, OK? You said that for me to know on purpose.”
While saying this, Synthia thought, “She’s such a low–level phony. Exposing her is so easy peasy.”
“That’s not true…” Joslyn bit her lip hard, looking utterly innocent. “I didn’t mean to. I wasn’t thinking because I was so worried about her… If you don’t believe me, I… I’ll bow to you and apologize to you again.”
Though Joslyn said so, she had no intention of bowing to Synthia at all.

Her real purpose was to play the harmless victim–this trick always worked.
“Mr. Raymond, you heard that. She wanted to bow to me. I didn’t force her to do anything.” Synthia pointed at Joslyn and smiled. “It’s got nothing to do with me. Don’t blame me for her stupidity.”
Synthia wanted nothing to do with anything related to the Raymond family.
But since Joslyn chose to provoke her, of course, she’d fight back. Otherwise, Joslyn would have walked all over her.
Joslyn was furious at Synthia’s words.
But she had no choice but to swallow her anger and put up with it.
Her eyes turned red as she looked at Darion affectionately. “Dary…. You… wouldn’t think I’m stupid, would you?”
Synthia couldn’t help but chuckle.
She said, “I’m so sorry for ruining the atmosphere… You guys go
ahead.”
“Enough.” Darion frowned. He turned to Joslyn and said, “I invited Dr. Duffy here for business. Since she’s annoyed by your presence, you should go and help Whitney.”
“What?” Joslyn was stunned.
She didn’t want to leave at all.
Darion had always been so busy, and she seldom had a chance to impress him. If she left now, it’d be creating a chance for Synthia and him to be alone.

Meanwhile. Synthia hastily waved her hands and blurted out, “No! Mr. Raymond, your girlfriend hasn’t done acting. Why are you letting her away?”
When saying this, she thought. “This woman is definitely going to badmouth me after I leave. I gotta expose her while I still can.”
At the same time. Joslyn glared at Synthia, thinking, “She doesn’t play by the rules at all.
“I feel played.”
She quickly adjusted her mood. Then she bit her lip and said in a small voice, looking aggrieved. “I have no idea what you’re talking about. Acting? I was just concerned about you…”
Synthia smiled and cut her off again, “I barely know you. Why would I want your concern? Go get some help. I genuinely think you need it. After all, mental health is no joke. I’m happy to refer you to a few specialists at the Psychiatry Department, and they won’t charge you a
cent.”
Joslyn choked up at Synthia’s words.
She was on the verge of snapping.
“She’s not my girlfriend.” Darion finally opened his mouth. Then he turned to Joslyn and said, “This isn’t the place for you. You should leave, or I’ll have someone send you back right now.
“Dary…” Joslyn called out to him, not wanting to give up just yet.
Darion glanced at her, and she bit her lip and reluctantly said, “Fine. You know I always do as you say, Dary.”
Then she left, looking pitiful.

Then Darion said unhurriedly, “Dr. Duffy, you must have been enjoying the farce. Now, you may proceed with the check–up.”
Joslyn was a complete joke in Synthia’s eyes.
And Joslyn made a poor choice of provoking Synthia.
Synthia glanced at Darion and thought, “At least he’s smart enough to see through that phony. I thought he was as gullible as other jerks, taking those phonics‘ word for it unconditionally.”
“That won’t be necessary,” she said.
Darion looked up and locked eyes with her. Then he said word by word, “Dr. Duffy, are you playing me?”
She shook her head. “I wouldn’t dare.”
“Then what do you mean?” he asked.
“I’ve met with the patient,” she said seriously. “Her condition is better than I thought. I’ll prepare a detailed surgical plan. Let’s talk after that.”
Darion nodded. “Alright.”
He handed her a card and said, “This is my card. Call me at any time if you need anything.”
Darion’s card?
She didn’t want it at all.
But since she was repaying him, she might as well delete his contact information after the surgery.
She took the card. “Alright. I’m off then.”

“I’ll give you a ride,” Darion offered subconsciously.
She turned him down, saying, “No need. I’ll hail a cab.”
Darion had never been rejected before.
He frowned and went inside without saying another word.
Just as Synthia reached the entrance, Joslyn walked out again.
Unlike minutes ago, she was no longer pitiful and delicate. Instead, she wrapped her arms around her chest, looking arrogant.
“Dr. Duffy, how could you get me so wrong?” she said with a smile. “I was just trying to be nice, but you got me so wrong that even Dary misunderstood me. I’m so sad. Tell you what? Bow to me and apologize to me, and I’ll forgive you.”
