The Eternal Promise 2

The Eternal Promise 2

He probably already has a girlfriend.

I sent a friend request

He responded with a question mark almost

instantly

Are all cops this standoffish

Then I realized I’d forgotten the intro

message

I retyped, Hi, I’m Ginger Knight, just moved

back to town.”

That should do it, right

Nope

Crickets

Later that night, when I’d almost forgotten

about it, he finally messaged: What the hell

do you want?”

I blinked

Why the hostility

I doublechecked with Mrs. Davison to make

sure I had the right number

Honey, Detective Davies is the sweetest

thing. Always helping folks out.”

Weird

I hadn’t even done anything to him

I patiently explained why I’d added him

Still no response

Mrs. Davison offered a solution: No matter

tomorrow I will take you to him, then you guys can be acquainted and it will be more

I was exhausted

Barely had the energy to keep my eyes open

Thanked her sincerely and went to bed

But sleep was a nogo

My mind was a mess

This was my old childhood bedroom

I hadn’t even touched the other rooms

Especially Grandma’s

Tossing and turning, I felt a sudden heat in

my nose

Touched it

Fingers came away slick with blood

That snapped me awake

Moonlight barely piercing the curtains, I sat

up, pinching my nose

Stumbled to the bathroom

Flicked on the light to find my pajamas

stained crimson

I knew the drill by now

Thank God I came back home

Hospital buddies would’ve been all over me

clucking about how unfair it was

They always pitied me, took care of me

Loved being around them
