###Chapter 17%
Lawrence made a move against Patterson Corporation.
Ever since, the entire Patterson company has been thrown into chaos and panic.
Dawson has been running around like a headless chicken, completely lost.
I couldn’t help but take the wine glass he handed me, chatting casually while drinking a couple more glasses.} Lawrence grinned wider. “You seem pretty happy.”
I squinted, a little tipsy. “Of course. I’m glad the man I hate is falling apart. Isn’t that worth a few drinks to celebrate?“} “Honestly, I was half afraid you’d feel sorry for him, that you’d still care about your ex’s suffering,” he teased.§
I laughed coldly. “I’m no saint. I’d rather see him lose everything.”
Lately, I barely even thought about Dawson.
All the pain, lies, and betrayal he caused me seemed to hurt less with every passing day.
That very night, news of my engagement to Lawrence broke out.
By the next morning, it had spread back home.

At that moment, Dawson was just boarding a plane–he missed the news firsthand.
He had planned to personally investigate what Lawrence’s fiancée liked.
But when he walked into the Clark Corporation, he unexpectedly saw me in Lawrence’s office.
I was there to present my design proposal, waiting for Lawrence to finish a meeting.c
Seeing his desk a mess, I was tidying it up for him.
Then Dawson appeared.
Seeing me, he clearly thought I worked there.§
Stunned at first, he quickly snapped back to reality and strode over.
“Maxine, I’ve been looking everywhere for you!“}
“Come home with me, Maxine. I was wrong. I shouldn’t have been tempted by Elise, but now I know everything. I’ve avenged you and our child. I’ve gotten rid of that woman–she’s gone forever, and can’t hurt us anymore.“}
I frowned and threw the marriage certificate he handed me onto the floor.
He dropped to his knees, begging, “If you don’t like Elijah, I can take care of him too. Please forgive me!“}
I wasn’t moved, and only felt disgusted. “Dawson, you’re so cruel even to your own son. Why would I ever go back to you?“}
“We’re done. You lied to me for so long and caused me so much pain. How could I just turn a blind eye? No–I will never forgive you.”} “Besides, even if i returned, I’d live in fear–fear that you would make disappear like you did with her.“}
“I won’t. I’m willing to give you everything, Maxine. I truly love you!” he pleaded.
“Wow, such deep feelings, Mr. Patterson.“}
Amid applause, Lawrence strolled in casually.
He smiled, but his eyes were icy as they locked on Dawson. “Have you heard the saying–‘A good horse doesn’t eat the grass behind it‘?“} “Besides, Maxine already has a new husband. You probably don’t know, but he loves her deeply. They’re inseparable, completely devoted to each other. Their passion is explosive–Maxine drains him every night. They love so fiercely, they’ll probably have a child soon.“} “And her husband is exceptional. Not only is he wealthy, but he’s gifted in all the right ways. Maxine is fulfilled, body and soul, cherished by him. How could she ever look back at a selfish man who never loved her?“} “You’re lying! Maxine loves me. There’s no way she’d marry another man!“} Hearing Lawrence’s blunt, crude words, Dawson’s face twisted with fury.
“How do you even know about your subordinate’s private life?“}
Lawrence stepped closer to me, wrapping his arm around my waist. “Oh, sorry, I forgot to introduce myself properly. I’m Lawrence Clark- the perfect husband of Maxine.”
Upon hearing that, Dawson seemed struck by lightning, his eyes bloodshot as he shouted,
“Impossible! Maxine, you’re joking, right? You just met Lawrence–how could you marry him so fast?“>
“Who says you can’t marry someone right after meeting them?” Lawrence rolled his eyes.
“Besides, who told you we just met? Maxine and I have been betrothed since birth. If you hadn’t tricked her back then, by now we’d have a whole bunch of little Lawrence and little Maxine.“%
“No way! No way… Maxine is just an ordinary girl… how could she be with you-“}
Lawrence’s eyes darkened, cutting Dawson off sharply. “So being ‘ordinary‘ is your excuse for deceiving and playing with her? Haven’t you done enough damage?“%
Dawson’s face fell as memories of how he hurt me came flooding back.
He stepped closer to me “I don’t believe it. Maxine, you must be angry and find someone just to spite me…”
1:15 PM
But Lawrence used his tall frame to block Dawson, pulling me even tighter into his arms.§
He bent down and kissed me deeply–right in front of a furious Dawson–pressing me onto the sofa. “Wife, he doesn’t believe we’re a real couple. Let’s show him just how hot our love is every day.”
“Okay…” I nodded, knowing he was just trying to provoke Dawson, so I let him be.
But as Lawrence’s passionate kiss deepened, my breaths grew uneven.
I became dizzy with desire, slowly forgetting Dawson’s existence.
My flushed face under another man’s touch stabbed Dawson’s eyes like a knife.
“Let go of my wife!” Dawson swung his fists, charging at Lawrence.[
However, his blows were precisely blocked.2
Lawrence licked his lips with a wicked grin and got up. “My wife has a sweet mouth.“>
Then they fought fiercely.2
Even though Dawson was tall and strong, he stood no chance against Lawrence, who was trained and skilled.}
Dawson ended up beaten, pinned down by arriving bodyguards.
Lawrence rubbed his bruised lips, rolling his eyes with disdain. “Dawson, I know why you showed up today. Now, you should also understand why you’re about to be finished.“%
As his words faded, Dawson was thrown out by the bodyguards.
Watching him stumble in the street, I dabbed Lawrence’s lip wound with a cotton swab, feeling incredibly pleased.§
“Handsome, right?”%
I rubbed the sore spot. “Yeah, but no more fighting from now on. I worry about you.”@
Lawrence’s eyes widened in surprise, and soon the office echoed with his playful groans.
