###Chapter 89
My allergy didn’t just appear out of nowhere–it was caused by the long–term medication I took, all for the sake of having his child.
But I didn’t want to explain anything anymore.
Dawson brought the porridge over, standing right in front of me.
“Whether you like it or not, you will eat it today!”
With tears burning hot down my cheeks, I forced down the porridge in one gulp.
“That’s nothing, stop pretending.”
The next second, I convulsed and collapsed to the floor, clawing frantically at my throat.
My voice barely escaped before my swollen throat choked me.
“Help…”
“Maxine! I’m calling an ambulance right now!”
The last thing I saw was Dawson, pale–faced, dropping to his knees beside me.”
When I opened my eyes again, the dim hospital light revealed Dawson sitting at my bedside, his eyes swollen and red. He kissed my forehead, trembling all over.
“Sorry, baby. I didn’t know you were really allergic to peanuts. Why didn’t you tell me sooner?”
What else was there to say? Beg him to believe me on my knees?
I kept my face cold and silent. Dawson’s expression flickered with guilt.
“Elise said she almost hurt you and came here personally to apologize. Don’t be mad anymore.”
Before I could say “No, thank you,” Elise appeared at the door and bowed her head.
But then she whispered in my ear, “I actually put peanuts in on purpose. You really have lucky survival skills.”
Her words sent my temper spiraling out of control. I raised my hand to slap her.”
Dawson grabbed my wrist mid–air, scowling. “She sincerely apologized. Are you only satisfied if you bully a little girl?”
His cold stare made my vision darken. Overwhelmed by anger and disappointment, I screamed, “Get out of my sight–both of you!”
My anguished expression made Dawson’s heart twist painfully. He opened his mouth to speak, but all he could hear was Elise’s soft crying.
“Calm down at the hospital for now.“”
He released my hand and left with Elise.
The moment they were gone, I ripped out the IV and checked myself out.”
Back home, I donated all the gifts Dawson had ever given me to the Red Cross overnight.”
When Dawson received the notice from the housekeeper, his heart inexplicably pounded wildly.
He dropped Elise, who was breastfeeding, and rushed home at top speed.
I sat on the balcony, watching a shooting star streak across the sky.
Years ago, Dawson held me on this very mountain and wished on a meteor shower.
“I hope the love between Maxine and me will shine like a shooting star.“}
His love had indeed been like a shooting star–dazzling, but gone in an instant.
“Maxine!”
Dawson burst through the door, drenched in sweat, and wrapped me tightly in his arms.
“Why did you donate all the gifts I gave you?“”
I smiled.
“There were just too many things. I cleaned out some.”
He exhaled deeply, pain and regret flooding his eyes.
“I thought you were ignoring me. Sorry, Maxine. I shouldn’t have been so harsh to you in the hospital. I won’t be like that again.“W He finally noticed the fresh wounds on my palm.
Anxiously, he asked, “Baby, how did you get hurt?”
His tenderness made me forget he was the one who pushed me down for Elise.
“I accidentally fell.“%
He winced and brought over the medical kit, kneeling to disinfect and bandage the cuts.
“You’re always so careless. I really don’t know what I’d do if I didn’t take care of you.“}
Without you, would I have suffered so much?%
*After Elijah’s adoption ceremony, the three of us will go see your favorite giant pandas, okay?” A hopeful smile lit his face
