Chapter 1
After being drugged,my billionaire husband ended up sleeping with his personal secretary. He told me,“Laurie,someone set me up and at that time,there was only Alicia Dunne. There was no other choice but to do the deed. However,don’t worry, I’ll handle her.”
This made my heart ache,but considering that we had been in love for three years and married for two years,I decided to forgive him.
Until the day he was kidnapped on a business trip and the kidnappers sent a video to extort
us,that was when the situation became critical.
By the time I rushed to the hospital, he had just been rescued and he was standing outside the hospital room,looking dazed and disoriented.
The doctor said Alicia was eight months pregnant.
She had acted willingly as an informant for the police,contacted the kidnappers alone and nearly had a miscarriage because she was pulled forcibly for sixteen kilometres before she was taken to the hospital.
While Nathan Campbell was trying to clarify to me,Alicia suddenly opened the door,knelt in front of me while holding her belly and said adamantly, “Ma’am,I won’t get married again in this life,this may be my only child,please let him go,okay?”
Nathan pleaded,” Laurie,she had saved my life. You’ve always been so understanding.”
I directed my eyes at him without saying anything,then laughed in exasperation, “Nathan,choose We separate,or she terminates the pregnancy.”
Nathan’s eyes reddened as he grabbed my hand. “No!We won’t divorce,but I have to repay he
favor.”
One month later, Alicia gave birth to a boy. The Campbell Family matriarch was overjoyed and insisted on registering the child in the family genealogy.
I pulled my ring from my finger and called someone,” The condition you said,I accept.”
A soft chuckle came from the other end.”Pleasure doing business with you.”
I was standing outside the ward and,without realizing it,I had tightened my grip.
Meanwhile,the matriarch of the Campbell Family was holding a swaddled baby.She looked tenderly with an eased expression.
Nathan, who had always been stoic,looked at the child with a rare adoration that felt foreign to

“This child is blessed and handsome.I’ve already arranged for his birth date and name. He should be recorded in the Campbell Family genealogy,” the matriarch said solemnly.
Madam Campbell,Nathan’s mother,chimed in,“You’re right,Mother. After all,he has the Campbel Family’s blood,so he deserves to have a proper status. Then she turned and looked at me with a flicker of thinly veiled impatience.“At least you still have a conscience,coming to see the baby.”
The matriarch cut her off sternly, “Laurie,don’t let jealousy make you lose your temper with Nathan. The baby is from the Campbell Family and can’t be considered your children, either. As

My nails dug deeper into my palm. My voice was hoarse,” I understand.”
After the matriarch and Madam Campbell left the room, Nathan was called away to arrange matters,so the only ones in the ward were I and Alicia.
The dull and plain look that was usually on her was gone and there was a smug gleam in her eyes.However,she still pretended to be innocent.“Madam,I didn’t expect the baby to be a boy. Th old matriarch refused to let us go…I’m just a nobody. There’s really nothing I can do.”
She stayed silent for a while,then she said with a voice cracked with sob,“You know tha Mr.Campbell only loves you. I’m just a secretary without any background or support.I’m no threa to you. Besides, I have no choice.”
‘Alicia,”my eyes directed at her for a while,then said calmly,” Of course you have a choice.”
She froze,her face stiffened for a moment.
‘Why do you keep pretending in front of me? Didn’t Nathan give you a huge sum of money?Was i more than enough for you and your child to disappear and live in comfort for the rest of you! ives?However, you choose to stay and keep reminding us about your existence.”
spoke coldly. “It’s not that you didn’t want the baby in the Campbell Family,but you wanted th Campbell Family to beg you to let them enter the family.”
Her face suddenly turned white and her hands clasped the child tightly.It seemed she did not <now what to say.Suddenly,she raised her hand….
Slap!
A sharp slap fell to her own face.
The next moment,the baby in her arms let out a piercing and heart–wrenching wail that shook
