After a week of that, I finally got an interview.
I wasn’t holding my breath.
First, the owner of the firm knew about my
relationship with Nick.
Second, he and Nick were rivals in college.

After I gave him some BS answer, Frank gave
up on me and started hating me too.
Every year at the college reunions, Frank
would complain about Nick and me.
In his eyes, I was a doormat who put up with
Nick’s bullshit.
Me, leaving Nick?
Never going to happen.
So when I got the interview, I didn’t want to

I thought Frank was just going to make fun of

I prepared myself.
I rehearsed my responses over and over.
What I didn’t expect was Frank wasn’t there.
I was interviewed by Frank’s student.
He told me Frank was out of town, but told
him to give me special attention.
He wanted to see how much I’d improved.
The interview went great, and after consulting
with Frank, they offered me the job.
It was a miracle.
Maybe Frank wanted to stick it to Nick.
I had no idea. I was going to have to wait a
week for him to return.
My first week was great.
Everyone was really friendly.
Until Frank returned.
