The next morning, Michael’s phone rang.
Becky White’s name flashed on the screen.
He hesitated, then answered.
Г
Becky’s sobs came through the speaker.
“Mr. Sterling, I don’t know what to do
anymore…”
“It’s okay, just tell me what’s going on.”
Michael frowned, his voice gentle.
“I’m being cyberbullied! There are photos of
me everywhere online, and everyone’s calling
me names, saying I’m a homewrecker!”
“I’m so scared. I can’t even leave the house.
Waaaah!”
Michael’s face turned dark. He glared at me,
his eyes burning with fury.

“Don’t worry, just stay inside. I’ll take care of
it.”
Becky was using her “damsel in distress” act,
and it was working like a charm on Michael.
His anger exploded as soon as he hung up.
He slammed the phone on the table and
demanded, “What do you want? You’ve
already pushed her out of the company, what
more do you want?”
“Why are you so evil? Flaunting the fact that
you’re a trophy wife! Abusing your power!”
I slammed my bowl down too, not backing
down.
“I didn’t do anything.”
L
“Everyone at this company knows she pissed
you off. Who else would do this?”
“I don’t lie! You’re so blinded by her that
you’re willing to believe an intern over your
own wife!”
Michael stormed off, slamming the door
behind him.
I wiped my mouth slowly, watching him leave,
a look of disappointment in my eyes.
That afternoon, I was scrolling through social
media when I noticed that all the negative
posts about Becky had vanished. In their
place was an official statement from Sterling
Corp.
It praised Becky’s talent and claimed she’d
earned her place at the company.
Sterling Corp would not tolerate the malicious
rumors, and would take legal action against
anyone spreading lies.
My phone buzzed with a new message from
my assistant:
“Mrs. Sterling, Mr. Sterling just announced
that Becky will be returning to the company
as his chief secretary, with a salary equivalent
to a VP! Anyone caught gossiping about her
will be fired!”
“The whole company’s talking about it.
They’re saying Mr. Sterling and Becky are
having an affair ”
Г
I felt a stab of anger.
Then another message from my assistant,
with a screenshot of Becky’s latest post:
“All the storms are over! Hard work pays off,
and my talent has been recognized! Thank
you, Mr. Sterling, for believing in me!”
Attached was a photo of her new contract,
showing she was now the Chief Secretary,
with a VP–level salary.
I stared at the sickening post, my knuckles
white as I gripped my phone.
Later, Michael came home to grab some files,
not even glancing at me.
