4 Chapter 4
Dashiell insisted on keeping the mansion and luxury cars, claiming they were all essential living materials. He said he needed to provide Vivienne with a stable living environment.
I couldn’t be bothered to argue with him, so I signed the papers on the spot, letting him convert half the value into cash to pay me.
After receiving the divorce certificate, I went home, packed my things, and walked straight up to Dashiell, who was sitting on the couch.
“That twenty million, will you pay by check or bank transfer?”
Dashiell was taken aback.
“Scarlett, have you lost your mind? That’s twenty million, not two thousand bucks. You want me to pay right now?!”
“You signed the agreement at the civil affairs office, agreeing to pay in full on the same day. I’m moving out now, and I don’t think it’s necessary for me to come back before midnight to remind you, right?”
Frost Family was founded by Dashiell and me together. In four years, its market value had already exceeded one hundred million. I thought that for Dashiell, coming up with twenty million shouldn’t be a problem.
“Impossible! You know the company has been expanding for the past two years. Cash flow is tight. I can’t come up with that much money right away. Wait a little longer!”
“Huh, wait a little longer?Your mistress couldn’t even wait for our divorce to be finalized before she waltzed right in and took over, huh? 1.agreed to the divorce for your sake, and now you’re telling me to wait? Dashiell, do you have any shame left? Can’t come up with the money, can you? Both of you, get the hell out of here. I’m selling this mansion right now!”
Dashiell’s face turned the color of raw liver. Veins popping on his forehead, he was rendered speechless by my onslaught. Suddenly, a piercing shriek echoed from the mansion’s entrance.
In a flash, an old woman in tattered clothes from the countryside burst in, leaping forward to slap me across the
face.
“Oh, you harbinger of misfortune! What sin did my Hendrik commit to end up with a barren hen like you for a daughter–in–law? This mansion was all earned by my Hendrik, and you have the gall to kick him out? I say you’re the one who should hit the road!”
it was Grey Zeming’s mother from the countryside, Mabel. Looks like Dashiell had already spilled the beans about our impending divorce to his mom.
As Mabel continued to berate me, she plastered on a sycophantic smile and grabbed Vivienne’s hand, leading her out the door. Like she was showing off and trying to humiliate me at the same time, she deliberately dragged me and Vivienne outside the mansion and shouted loudly to the neighbors.
“Everyone, come take la look! This woman who slept with my son for eight years couldn’t even give him a child. Now my son’s true love is pregnant, but this shameless woman still won’t leave. Don’t you think she’s disgraceful?‘
The confused neighbors gathered around, pointing and whispering about me. Mabel got even more worked up. sobbing and wailing that the mansion and luxury cars all belonged to her son and had nothing to do with me. She claimed I was refusing to leave even after getting divorced.
The neighbors‘ insults got nastier as they glared daggers at me. Dashiell knew it was all lies but said nothing. allowing his mother and the neighbors to humiliate me.
I trembled as I looked at this disgusting family, feeling dizzy and seeing spots.
The next moment, I fell into a warm embrace. A domineering yet affectionate voice spoke in my ear.
“See, I told you not to marry that jerk, but you insisted. Now I have to come rescue you again
