“Lynette, I was out of my mind. Please don’t
leave me. I will have a child with you, and I’ll
stay away from Clarissa.”
“Enough Get out ”
L
I stared at him with an icy expression.
“You took my love for granted and hurt me. I
don’t love you anymore. You mean nothing to
me.”
“Don’t leave me. I can’t live without you.”
His voice was husky.
I didn’t budge.
“You’re just afraid of losing the benefits I got
you.”
“You have to meet our conditions if you want
a divorce.” Horace’s dad said.
Horace’s mom butted in, “Give Horace a
L
promotion, and we have to have this house.
How can a woman live in such a big house?”
“Can you not hear?”
“Horace had a child before we got married.
That’s fraud, and he should leave with
nothing.”
“Clarissa knows he’s married and got involved
with him. She’s going to lose everything.”
“Horace has bad work skills. Why does he
want a promotion? He’s fired. Are you
dreaming?”
The security guards arrived at the door.
I opened the door.
<
“Get these people out.”
“Lynette, just you wait! I’m going to post your
story online, and you’re going to get fired.”
Clarissa hissed.
Horace’s dad nodded.
“She’ll be fired for hurting the company
image.”
Horace’s mom said, “How is she going to live
with no job?”
I was stunned.
The security guards gave me a pitying look.
“The residents here are rich. Ms. Lynn doesn’t
need to work to have money Mo Lynn is not
<
like you.”
Horace’s dad was confused.
“She’s a regular employee. Horace has been
the main breadwinner.”
I smiled at Horace.
“Do you think I’m a regular employee? You
can foo! others, but you can’t fool yourself.”
“Honey, please forgive me…” Horace said.
He grabbed my sleeve.
“You were wearing a necklace I gave you on
your birthday.”
“Then I saw Clarissa had the same one, so I
<
threw it away.”
“I hate sharing things with others, men
included.”
“I feel sick when I see you.‘
I pulled my sleeve away.
“Clarissa is using you to suck you dry. She
only wants your money.”
Horace looked at Clarissa for confirmation,
but she was pale.
She thought she had hidden her intentions,
but it was obvious to everyone else.
The guards grabbed them and dragged them
out.
But Horace shook them off and kneeled in
front of me.
He slapped himself.
“Don’t kick me out. I can’t live without you.”
“Why should I care? If you want to die, do it
far away from my house.”
He was more annoying than a fly.
I felt disgusted.
The person in front of me was crying, but I
didn’t feel anything.
Horace’s cheeks were red, and his eyes were
bloodshot.
L
“Why are you so cruel?”
“What are you pretending for?”
“You had a baby with another woman before
we got married. Do you think I’ll feel sorry for
you and forgive you?”
I told the guards to hurry up.
Before I closed the door, I heard Horace’s
mom crying, “She still loves you. Apologize to
her again.”
Did her eyes just evaporate?
Why did she think I still loved Horace?
The next day, my coworkers were acting
weird
L
Vanessa called me into her office.
Clarissa had posted about me online.
She had filters turned on, tears streaming
down her face.
She said I abused my power.
She said I cheated and kicked Horace out.
