Chapter 22%
When Rosalie stepped through the door, she was immediately met with the curious, gossip–filled eyes of Luke and Daisy.
They held up a phone showing a news article. “Rosalie, Weston confessed to you with fireworks? How romantic! It’s even trending everywhere! Everyone online is praising Weston’s deep devotion and saying how lucky you are!”
“I turned him down,” Rosalie said with cool detachment.”
But Luke and Daisy grew emotional. “Rosalie, Weston is such a remarkable man. Ever since he came to be the family doctor and quietly asked about you, we knew he had feelings for you.”
“And look at how he’s cared for James this past year; he treats him like his own son! Your dad and I even looked into him. He may come from a prestigious family and be incredibly handsome, but he’s never dated anyone, not even the matches his family arranged! He’s only ever cared for you! That proves his love is true and rare.“}
“A man like that is hard to find. If you two got together, and he cared for you and the baby, your dad and I would finally feel at peace. To win over our future son–in–law’s heart, we didn’t even tell him about your past marriage with Chase. He…”
“I already told Weston everything,” Rosalie interrupted firmly. “I told him I was married, divorced, and that I’m carrying my ex–husband’s
child.”
“Why would you…”
She cut them off again. “I know you both really like Weston, and I can tell you’ve been trying to set us up lately. But in my heart, there’s only Easton. There always will be.”
“You both know how deeply Easton and I loved each other, so please, stop trying to bring up Weston. I won’t talk about it.”
“But Rosalie…” Luke and Daisy still wanted to speak, but Rosalie had already closed the door on them.”
As if recalling something, they finally sighed and let it go.”
That night, Rosalie slept fitfully, her dreams twisted and vivid.}
She saw Easton confessing to her sweetly beneath the maple tree.
She watched the world drain of color, turning gray and black the moment Easton passed away.”
She found herself alone and helpless, trapped in a fiery hell.}
Easton’s ghost appeared, bidding her a silent farewell.
And in the final, darkest scene, she dreamed of Chase.}
No matter how she ran, Chase refused to let her or the baby go.”
He chased her down, a cruel knife in hand, cutting open her belly.
“If I have to suffer, you won’t use my child to save my brother’s!“}
In the nightmare, her baby was torn from her, leaving her to scream in pain.
“Ah!“}
Rosalie screamed aloud, the terror of the nightmare still gripping her.
Cold sweat soaked her skin as she frantically touched her belly; thankfully, it was whole. It had been just a dream.”
But why had such a nightmare visited her without warning?”
She knew Chase had always been possessive and obsessive; after all, he had secretly loved Isla for years.”
Now that he claimed he loved her and wanted her back… could he really go to such extremes?!
If that happened, what could she do? And what about James?
A soft knock came at the door, followed by a concerned voice. “Rosalie, are you okay? What happened?” It was Weston. “I’m fine. Just a nightmare,” Rosalie replied, forcing calm into her voice.
“You don’t sound fine,” Weston hesitated, unwilling to leave so soon.
The truth was, Rosalie wasn’t fine at all. But after the confession and rejection between them, she felt awkward burdening him. Just as she was about to gently refuse his concern, a sudden, sharp pain stabbed her abdomen. “Ah…“}
