The woman’s voice grew serious. “Are you sure you weren’t hallucinating?”
I paused for a moment before asking in return, “Hallucinating?“>
She nodded and sighed. “Harold drugged your food. It contained hallucinogens and sedatives.“}
I immediately thought of the black–bone chicken soup from last night. He must’ve added something to it.
The woman helped me back into the room.
I belatedly asked, “Who are you?”
“My name is Metta. I was the girlfriend Harold nearly burned alive!“}
“What?”
Metta said she was just like me–another woman hurt by Harold.”
She was his first love and she had supported him through college.}
“He swore over and over that he would marry me. But in the summer after he graduated, he deliberately set fire to the apartment we were living in.”
Metta took off her hat and mask, revealing a face covered in burn scars.

It sounded casual and teasing, with a hint of provocation. “She even gave you her first time.”
My face flushed red with embarrassment.
Harold gave a dismissive snort. “Who cares about that? That uptight, stiff look of hers always turned me off.”
Chloe giggled flirtatiously “So your drug really worked that well?”
Hamid spoke with absolute confidence, ‘Of course. This drug causes hallucinations. Raina’s biggest fear is ghosts. Once she gets pregnant, we’ll use the baby in her belly to our advantage 2
