Bethany could focus on Liam and the
company.
“Honey, I’ll leave you two to talk.”
Liam grabbed her hand. “No, stay. We have
nothing to hide.”

But seeing them hold hands still hurt.
I tried to stay calm.
I pushed the agreement towards them.
Liam gave it to Bethany. “Can we sign this?”
She nodded and smiled.
She looked it over and said, “She’s walking
away with nothing. We can sign it.”
She handed him a pen.
He looked at me.

“What else? I’m not a trash can.”
“Think about it. Second–hand women don’t
find great men. And Bethany might accept
you.”
I looked at Bethany, who looked
uncomfortable. “The people who accept me
won’t give me my certificate.”
Bethany wanted to argue.
I didn’t give her the chance.
“It’s okay, think of me as the bad guy. Think
of me as the other woman. I don’t care. I just
want my certificate. I earned it.”
I wanted them to die.

Liam signed the document.
We agreed to get a divorce in three months.
He handed me the certificate.
I started to leave.
Liam said, “Scarlett, you were impulsive. I’ll
give you twenty million as a compensation.”
I said, “No thanks, consider it a wedding gift.
Don’t be picky.”
Bethany said, “Twenty million is enough to
live off of.”
“If I just wanted to live, I wouldn’t get a
divorce!”
Bethany closed her mouth.
Liam sighed. “Scarlett, you’re too young. I’ve
been too lenient.”
I said, “I’m young, so I can do anything.”
I was only 21.
