Tyler stumbled back several steps, nearly losing his balance. Xavier’s deep blue eyes were filled with frost as he looked at Tyler like he was staring at a dead man, as if he wanted nothing more than to beat him to death. The intense pain on Tyler’s face distorted his expression. He viciously tried to fight back. “Who do you think you are? Disciplining my wife is none of your business! You’ll pay for hitting me—I’ll make you see what price you’ll pay!”
Although Xavier had told me about our family situation, I was still worried. After
all, the family of Tyler is wealthy and influential. What if…
Noticing my concerned look, Xavier merely gave a cold laugh. He flexed his wrist. “I’ll show you first what price you pay for hurting Wendy!”
With that, he motioned for his bodyguards to enter and restrain Tyler. “This is what
happens to anyone who dares bully my princess!”
At his signal, the bodyguards began punching and kicking Tyler until there wasn’t a spot on his body that wasn’t bruised.
Tyler howled in pain, growing even more furious. He looked at me with venomous eyes. “Well done, you cheating woman! You dare to let this man beat me? Just wait -I’ll make you both regret this!”
But when he noticed my now–flat stomach, Tyler froze momentarily. He seemed not to have realized my baby was truly gone. “Wendy, where’s the child? I’m asking you, where’s the child?!”
I stared at him, enunciating each word: “What do you think? Weren’t you the one who locked me in the house and hung up the phone saying I was acting and
disturbing your wedding?”
Seeing Tyler’s change in attitude, Sophia’s eyes showed panic. She quickly accused me: “Wendy, how could you treat Tyler this way? He’s your husband! And this man… your child couldn’t have been…”
She didn’t finish her sentence, but left enough to the imagination.
Sure enough, Tyler was enraged again. Self–important and arrogant as he was, if he weren’t unable to get up, he would have lunged at me to strangle me. “Was this

child yours and this man’s?!”
Looking at his face flushed with anger, I felt momentarily disoriented. Tyler wasn’t
like this before.
We were college sweethearts. Back then, he was gentle and considerate, always putting me first. Being an orphan, I especially lacked a sense of security, and he constantly promised to give me a complete family.
After we got together, he insisted on marrying me despite his parents‘ objections.
He said he would be good to me forever.
But since Sophia’s return, he changed. It started with not coming home at night, and now, for Sophia’s wish to marry him before dying, he locked me at home, causing me to lose our child.
After I lost the baby, not only did he not care, but he suspected me of cheating. We had gone from love to disgust.
I didn’t explain my relationship with Xavier. After all, we were about to divorce- there was no point in saying more.
Tyler staggered to his feet, pointing at me. “You whore, I won’t let you two get away with this. Just wait!”
With that, he left without even waiting for Sophia, walking oddly due to his pain. Sophia hurriedly followed him–Tyler was her only support now. Noticing I was lost in thought, Xavier closed the hospital room door. “Don’t worry, your brother will handle everything.” Xavier comforted me, the concern in his eyes gradually putting me at ease. Perhaps I could truly trust him? “Wen, you’ve always been our family’s princess. As your big brother, I should do anything for you–it’s only right. You can have whatever you want. From now on, you’ll never have to be cautious again.”
Hearing these words, my heart was touched.
Looking at Xavier’s gentle gaze, my fingers gradually tightened under the blanket. This was my brother–the loving family I had longed for.
Now… my wish had come true.

During my recovery in the hospital, news poured in not just from Tyler but from his family as well.
All of it was accusations against me—blaming me for not keeping my husband’s
heart, for not taking care of my child.
Yet not one person mentioned that Tyler had locked me in the house that day. If not for my neighbor finding me and taking me to the hospital, I might not have survived. But I didn’t respond to any of it.
This, of course, only brought more frenzied accusations.
Strangely, Tyler hadn’t told his family about Xavier. He mistook Xavier for partner and surely wouldn’t let things go so easily.

affair
He was likely planning something sinister, which made me increasingly worried. On the day of my discharge, I asked to go home first to retrieve some belongings.
Xavier didn’t object. He seemed quite eager, as if he couldn’t wait to force Tyler to
divorce me and take me home.
After marrying Tyler, we had moved out of his family home to live independently. He disliked having outsiders in the house, so I personally handled most of our life.
This made it convenient for me to go back for my things.
I thought I could just grab my belongings and leave.
But when I opened the door, not only was Tyler home, but Sophia was there too.
