“Lucian, fix your face, man,” my friend Robert told me.
I’m in their circle since Allan isn’t here and Matthew is busy taking care of his wife. That’s what the topic was all about.
“You know what? I’ll never waste my money inside the vault if I have that. I’d get someone to take care of my wife instead of what Matt’s doing. You see how good this party is, and yet he let it slip by to stay beside her?”
I took a sip of my wine and my eyes scanned the whole banquet. I’m bored with this party. I’ve wanted to go home since I spoke to my business partner, but he still needs to introduce someone to me, so I have to wait.
“You two are different, man. Matthew loves his wife, you married out of arrangement,” Dylan responded to that.“]
“Even so. I got married because of obligation, but instead of looking at it as an obligation, I treated it as a new chapter of my life that could help me grow. Look at me now,” the newest in our circle, Ivan, said. He smiled proudly. “I’m happy with my wife. We’re having our third kid, considering we’re only two years into marriage.“N
I rolled my eyes and breathed heavily. Why do we have to talk about our married lives here, huh? I wanted to think they were just trying to irritate me because they know the situation between Hestia and me right now.
“Come on, I tried, but she’s a pain in the ass,” Dylan added. He looked at me and tapped my hand. “Man, you know what I’m saying. My wife is just like yours, they love to act stubborn and childish.”
I gritted my teeth. “Yeah…” I answered hoarsely and remembered how pissed I was when I came here all because Hestia gave me sarcastic answers, even in our chats.
Me: Where’s the suit and tie Chesca made for me?
Hestia: On the bottom drawer, inside the velvet box. Can’t you find it on your own or have Beverly take care of it?
I hated how she replies as if I’m a big disturbance to her. In fact, she’s the only one who takes care of everything about me, so who else would I ask but her? I can clearly understand now that if it wasn’t because of her, our house wouldn’t run. She’s the queen there, she owns everything, she knows everything, but does she have to always act like it now that I’m trying to break down her walls?!
Okay, fine. I can’t bring her back easily, but I’m trying. Seeing my son still think of her, hiding his longing for his mother by pretending to be angry with her, I need to act, even if it’s not for me but for Lorde.
Maybe now he can mask his pain and longing for her, but it’s only been four days since she’s gone. I’m sure that in the end, his pretending will run out, and he’ll cry again, asking me to bring Hestia back.”
“Lucian has a different situation. He’s an alpha, he must do everything to keep Hestia with him,” Ivan added.}
I nodded reluctantly at that.
Dylan smirked. “Did you try to woo her? Give her gifts? Usually, women, they’re weak when it comes to presents.“}
“Well, my wife isn’t weak,” I replied shortly. “That can’t help tame her.”
“Then…” Dylan started his suggestions. “How about making her jealous? Give her something to be afraid of. A woman, perhaps.”
I scoffed at that. What a stupid idea. She’s not even bothered by Beverly. It’s like it doesn’t matter if I flirt with another woman or so.
“No. That won’t work. It will only drive her further away. I have Beverly with me, remember? She still left even when she knew she was after
me.”
Robert chuckled and grinned. “Of course, she knows that woman won’t stand a chance, Lucian.“}

I raised an eyebrow and he tapped me again, looking proud.
“She knew that no matter what happened, you won’t end up choosing Beverly Rhode over her. You clearly don’t like your gamma, man.” “But if she saw Lucian with another woman, then that would make her jealous and insecure,” Robert added.
I swallowed at that thought. Could it be? Maybe she’s acting so prideful, confident, pretending she’s willing to give me up to Beverly because she knows I’ll never truly want her? Even though she looks like Chesca? She knew I won’t flirt back, huh?
I cocked my head to the other side, my lips tugging into a smile.}

I cleared my throat and extended my hand to the woman, but I was taken aback when she accepted my hand and pulled me in for a kiss on the cheek.

Shit! This will be on the news. Surely, Hestia will see this flash on her phone screen the next morning.”
