Damn it. How did things get this messy? A naked, showering Beverly is not what I expected to see.
‘O–okay. Hold on…” I could hear the worry in her voice. I must’ve looked like a man possessed.
When her eyes flickered in fear, something tightened in my chest. Damn it. She brushed her nose in a calming gesture, one that reminded me of only one person.}]
Chesca, my late wife. Beverly looked so much like her. Maybe she had something done to her face, or maybe she just naturally resembled her. Even the habits were the same. It was disturbing but I crave for it, reason why I made her my gamma. She’s soft and acting fine before when she came back from London but now… I can see changes in her. Or maybe I’m too stressed these past few days, she’s taking the fallout?
I took a deep breath. I had braced myself for Hestia, after all the chaos she put me through. But instead, I got Beverly. And now, without patience to spare, guilt gnawed at me. Because the fear I saw on Beverly’s face reminded me too much of Chesca. If only she’s here. If only she’s alive….}
I sighed.
“Leave this room,” I said as calmly as I could, looking away.”
“But all the rooms aren’t prepared yet.”
“Then sleep with Lorde. He’d be happy to have you.“}
“But-”
“No buts, Beverly,” I said firmly, repeating her name to remind myself who she was. “You know why I’m letting this go, don’t you? But you’re not her.“}
Moments later, I heard the door shut. I walked straight into a cold shower to calm down. There were too many things weighing on me today, but Hestia topped the list.
That damn woman. How is it that I can reject every woman who throws herself at me, yet my own wife is the one who gives me the biggest headache?!
I lay on the bed, trying to get a hold of myself. There was nothing I could do now but wait. If she came back soon, I’d mock her for failing to scare me. If she took a week, I’d throw it in her face. She could not survive without me and our son.
At some point, I drifted off. I didn’t realize it until a loud clap of thunder and a banging on my door pulled me back to consciousness.
I rushed to the door and saw the maid standing there.}
“Alpha, Sir Lorde is at it again. I don’t think Miss Rhode can handle him.”}
I ran to my son’s room. The floor was a mess, but what set me off was the sight of him pinned on the bed like a wild animal, with Beverly trying to restrain him.
“Shut up. I am not your enemy, damn it!” she cried.}
“What the hell are you doing to my son?” I bellowed.”
I pulled her off him and immediately checked on Lorde.}
“No! Don’t touch me! I’ll kill you! Don’t lay a finger on me!” he screamed, crying hysterically.
“It’s Daddy, son. No one will hurt you,” I said, my voice cracking. “Calm down, please.”
His face was twisted in pain, terror, and rage. He shook his head again and again, pushing me away, refusing to recognize me.”
“Mommy. Please. Save me, Mommy,” he sobbed and gasped for breath.”
My chest ached. My eyes stung. He was breaking down.”
“I didn’t know why he was like that, Lucian. He screamed, then attacked me. I was trying to calm him-”
“By pinning him like he’s some wild beast?” I snapped, furious. Then I turned to my son, wiping the sweat from his forehead. “Shh, Lucian. Daddy’s here. I’ll protect you, just like Mommy used to.“}
I stayed with him for hours until he finally settled. He begged me not to leave, so I slept beside him.”
I couldn’t wake up the next morning. My body was too tired, too drained. I wanted to stay asleep forever. But I was shaken awake.}
“Daddy!” he said, tapping my shoulder.”
“Lorde, ask your aunt to make you breakfast. I’m still sleepy,” I muttered, weak.
“She’s not here. And why should I ask her?” he snapped. “You promised me last night. You said Mommy would be here when I woke up. Where is she, huh? Did you lie?”
I sat up, startled. I never promised that. How could I promise something I wasn’t sure of?}
I held my head and looked at his small frame.
“You know your Mommy’s acting like a child, right? But she’ll come back soon, son,” I said, getting out of bed.
“Yeah? Is that why she’s with someone else now?“{
He tossed a tablet at me. I caught it just in time. I looked at the screen, and all the blood drained from my face.“]
“There. Is she really planning to leave us? Why is she with a man who already has a kid? Maybe she’s building a new family.”
He pointed at the child in the photo. I shook my head. This wasn’t real. Hestia wouldn’t do this.@
